walks ? is that just YOUR pathway to the house ? or part of the pavement/sidewalk as well ?

Sidewalk in front of house. From your property to the neighbours'. smiley - laugh Doing anything else - drive, walk to your front door - is optional, your decision. But we are doing the sidewalk and the walk, so nobody slips, including relatives and the postman.

Of course, one nice man down the street likes to do extra with his snowblower, when he can. We met him, too, at church. smiley - smiley

totally different here, some might clear their path to gate etc or not, but as for the pavement, no chance.
me! I'll put salt down, from door to gate and maybe to the roadside

smiley - laugh Actually, most people who still subscribe to a print newspaper have a special box for it.

Although my mom never had one. When I asked her why, she said, 'Your dad kept running over it with the car.' smiley - rofl

You can't put newspapers in the mailbox because the mail is part of the federal government. Tampering with it is illegal. smiley - laugh We take this seriously. smiley - winkeye

Towns here can make any laws they like about snow, not drinking beer on the front porch, etc. It's a legacy of what I've been writing about for the school lessons this week: the Progressive Era. smiley - rofl

"the mail is part of the federal government" smiley - smileyI gather that part, but our "letterboxes" have anything smiley - winkeyedumped through itsmiley - biggrinletters of any kind (smiley - winkeyemainly junk mail)news papers - well anything reallysmiley - laugh

one advantage about a small countrysmiley - winkeyeone rule type thing covers allsmiley - biggrinwhereas your minor laws in counties can go a little smiley - winkeyeoverboard (please forgive the pun bit) like its against the law to sneeze on the 3rd Sunday of a month type thingsmiley - biggrin

Most of those laws are exaggerated. smiley - rofl If you check those idiot lists on websites out, you'll find out they made most of them up.

The others were probably passed for a joke, mostly, by some bored council.

Actually, the participatory local government idea is a good one - it means less power to the people on 'Top', for one thing. And it means people don't have to do things in Pennsylvania that would only make sense in Florida. So I disagree there.

Besides, having local laws you can change if they don't make sense - like zoning, whatever - is much better than 1000-year-old villages where everything is run by 'custom' and 'tradition', and outsiders aren't welcome. smiley - winkeye

Well, I think we'll go along with these - it's a small place, wouldn't want to stick out. Besides, we might need their help. smiley - winkeye

Anyway, I'm off downstairs to eat. So have a good night, and stay warm. smiley - zzz

I doubt that would charge a battery. smiley - rofl He put a battery charger on it, said leave it alone until Thursday night.

Now he's off home - half an hour down the road in the freezing rain and ice - to feed his livestock and, he says, dig my sister's car out of the snow so she can drive it tomorrow. smiley - rofl

It's sort of like WC Fields says in that Yukon movie, 'It ain't a fit night out for man nor beast.'
