But you knew there was something inside them. There might have been just pointy brackets.

Given our Prime Ministers recent statements about banning encryption what does the panel think are his chances of it working...

Here's the view from an ISP...

Special Brew is too strong. It may have to be reduced in strength from 9% because a can has too many units of alcohol in it. The alternative is to make the cans smaller.

Wimps.

Not mentioned is that most bottles of wine have crept up to 13.5%, although I suppose that's not considered a problem, because wine is more middle-class.

I think you're on to something. I think it is class based. I understand the problem the government is trying to address. But as it's applied, restrictions are put on the beers of choice of the poor.

I never knew Special Brew was that strong.

I always used to enjoy the strong ales they labelled as 'barley wine'. My local brewery, Gales, did a Prize Old Ale at 9% I think - but this came in a much smaller bottle.

The beer strength thing is an industry optional code of conduct. I for one will be totally ignoring it at my brewery.

By UK law you have to put the units of alcohol on the label of a bottle (which I need to change my labels to show) and by EU law you have to put the strength in ABV, which I personally think is a far better thing.

There's then stuff like putting a warning to not drink when you're pregnant, but that's a Portman Group code and as far as I'm concerned they can kiss my expletive.
