So its summer brake at last and I intend to enjoy spending time with the boys while we are both awake (placement has meant that I've only really seen them when they are asleep or I've been too tiered to make it proper quality time) and so we've been out in the garden
This year we have an absolute glut of black and red currents, now I'm not actually a fan of blackcurrents but they do make a lovely Jam and pies and so forth as do the red currents although those are slightly sweeter so are not quite as bad if you decide to just eat them...
we also have... had some lovely red gooseberries.... the bush is about three years old and is only tiny so the boys have eaten all of those with delight, not so much the small green gooseberries... they have not been eaten at all... not even the birds want them
and we had one.... one single lonely strawberry... I think its time to get some new plants.
the currents have taken over about a quarter of our small garden very healthy and vibrant but we just cant pick all the fruit and we have already made two jars of redcurrant jam and five blackcurrant pies which admittedly isnt that much but the children dont eat that much...
we have a summerfruit jam ready to make the boys got fruit from one of these pick your own farm places, strawberries, brambles, (my husband insists they are called blackberries...) cherries which the boys devoured and which stained them slightly purple...
Soon we shall be going up to Scotland to visit my side of the family, mum and gran are really looking forward to seeing the boys and my sister has passed her driving test so I can make her take us to fun places
and we are due to go and visit a friend who lives in Nottingham for a day or so too,
sadly summer dosnt seem to last as long as I remember as a child... and Uni seems to be just around the corner
I passed my nursing exam (we only have one written exam) with a B and I got 100% on numeracy although I think we still need to take that again in second and third year (the third year one is harder)
all we need now is some nice weather, the boys were meant to be going out to the beach today but I dont know if they made it because it has been raining this afternoon, I've popped down to the shops and gotten some chocolate and strawberries for some messy desert fun later,
once september rolls around I'll be back at uni by around half way through the month, we have some quick skills updates on moving and handling and such and then they throw us back out into the world of nursing, can't help but hope I'll actually get to wear my uniform this year...
still lots of time for sand castles and fun at the park and just spending time together as a family, I dont think people remember how hard it is to be a student once you qualify, especially when you've got a family at home waiting for you
this academic year I also hope to work towards getting a driving licence... it really will come in handy (assuming I have enough money to buy, tax and run a vehicle) to get to placements some of which can be quite far away (Calderstones.... the thought of it is still very intimidating)

Congratulations on doing so well at uni!
I'd love to have a garden. My potted tomatos are slowly turning red and we had a few blueberries (also from a small bush in a pot) but most of them seem to be eaten by a family of blackbirds who live in the neighbour's tree. The small potted lemon tree was infested by plant lice and then came a parade of ants to milk them. Fortunately this problem seems to be solved now.
I'll have to go back to work in about two weeks. Or maybe not. My boss doesn't seem to want me anyore. Still, I'm already afraid of not seeing my little boy so much, so I know how you feel about your children.

thanks Tav,
I feel so guilty being away for so long (well not away really... I mean the big ones at school most of the day...)
and the little one just turned 3... 3 when did the time pass for that to happen?
I worry constantly that one day they will be annoyed that I'm not there but I need to do this...
and my worry is probably completely unjustified but I dont think I could stop...
plant lice being milked by ants sounds horrific...
the great thing about children is they love you no matter what I guess, so even if I'm not there all the time because I'm training, or you have to go back to work they only seem to respond by being cutest and most lovable when your there... even if we have to keep telling ourselves its for the best because we want to stay beside them and hug them till they are big enough to tell us they are too big for constant mummy hugs it isnt good for eather us nor them, I guess... there is meant to be a point in there somewhere...
