Why no ancient coin hoards in Devon?

Just recently a hoard of thousands of Anglo-Saxon coins was discovered in Buckinghamshire.

Lucky finder, lucky landowner! I understand that they share the windfall.

Discoveries of ancient coins has happened occasionally over recent centuries, but rarely in Devon.

The following is a list of hoards found in Britain.

Where is Devon? Were we too poor? too careful with our money, and not foolish enough to leave it buried somewhere and then forget about it (or die)? We appear just once, with some Roman coins discovered in East Devon (Seaton Downs)

There are later finds from the 18th century,....but from before...?

Our Devon ancestors were one of the celtic tribes tbat did not adopt coins, although our neighbouring tribes in Dorset (the Durotriges) did.

Although there have been a few finds of Roman coins, notably one at Seaton Downs in East Devon, apparently we remained largely coin free before and after.

Why would this be so even in Saxon times? The list above shows many Anglo-Saxon coin hoards have been discovered in England, but not in Devon.

The nearest Anglo-Saxon find interestingly, comes not from our east but our west. The Trewhiddle hoard in Cornwall is modest but dates from the 9th century.

Is there treasure out there awaiting discovery, or did our ancestors drink it all?
