A Conversation for CELTIC DEVON

Devon Flag

I recently sat down to watch a stage of cyclings "Tour of Britain", realising that it was the stage that started in Tavi.

I was expecting some glorious Devon countryside, but to my surprise I also saw a mass of Devon Flags being proudly waved at the start (and at various stages along the Devon section of the stage [e.g Collompton, Exeter] which ended at Glastonbury).

Heart Warming.

The broadcast was for 30 or 45 minutes, and it was brilliant. I haven't seen a copy on line, but it must have done a great job promoting Devon and its flag when shown worldwide (and it was!).

Here is an abbreviated BBC summary showing a few shots.

The following shows the previous stage (from Minehead to Teignmouth) and again you can see the Flag in the final crowd.

A number of Devon Flags were also clearly in evidence being waved at the Last Night of the Proms, both inside the Royal Albert Hall and in Hyde Park outside the hall where the Proms in the Park was being held.

I have spotted a large Devon Flag being flown at this years Tour de France.

The first time I spotted it was at a corner on Stage 9 ( a great location for prominence) and I have also seen it on more recent stages.

Unsure if it is the same flag each time or perhaps there is more than one?

Well done whoever you are ! smiley - biggrin

"The Coroner" is a BBC drama series set in South Devon.

It shows the Devon scenery in all its glory, and the Devon flag appears in the background from time to time (e.g. Series 1 Episode 2 "how to catch a lobster" I think).

I am almost sure I saw a Devon flag in the background in an old (Nettles era) repeat of Midsomer Murders as well. The episode ("down among the dead men") was partly shot near Beer.
