A Conversation for How Not to Name Children

Real people with silly names

A near neighbour when I was a child was called Olive Groves.
Allegedly a boy at my school before my time was Wayne Kerr.
A story I heard when living in Africa was that at a Christian mission the only books that were available were the Bible and a tractor manual. Locals chose names from either book therefore there was the occasional Carburettor and Radiator among the Abrahams and Josephs. We had workers with the given names of Christmas, Never and Fordson.

My friend Annette Jones thought she was safe until she married Mark Kirton.

And I have another friend who swears he went to school with Iona Mackintosh.

There was a guy on the radio this morning talking about the study he is conducting which involves trapping mosquitoes in Sydney wetlands.
