smiley - musicalnote
Oh how I'd love to eat anything I wanted,
Bangers and beans and enormous lumps of fried bread.
smiley - huh, chop and chips, and steak and kidney pies...

I can't make it out, nor can I figure out what it might be. When he sings it the second time around it sounds like it might be egg, but on the first lap it looks and sounds like the word starts with the letter F.

It's probably something really obvious, isn't it smiley - flustered

Is it 'fed'? ie, "fed chop and chips [...] by a girl good at cooking, who's big and good-looking..."

I'm going with 'fed'. It makes sense, and the more I listen to it the more that's what it sounds like. Thanks smiley - cheers

How did you find that page Mina?

By the way, the trio from Blaze Away (that's what the middle bit of a march is called) is what I used to sing every Saturday morning smiley - biggrin

Speaking of marches, I really miss the days when a lot of BBC theme tunes were either bona fide military marches, or something very close. Such as...

Radio Newsreel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nefzhgakAQM
The original Match of the Day theme http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYXEIaLKiKo
Sports Report http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gv_idtcK1-E
Grandstand http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FUdpqLLxPM
Wimbledon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JA3TIvvqxQo

True, but that one was chosen by the Pythons, I think, rather than some Reithian type at the Beeb who might once have been a brigadier and thought we should all stand shoulders back, chest out and get some discipline into those men sergeant major!

The first couple of links in your list certainly brought back memories. I started singing them even before they had loaded. Happy days!

They always used to play the Wimbledon music at the end of the day's live coverage I think, and always at the end of the highlights broadcast later in the evening (they still use this as the opening theme for the highlights show http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igqID9aRdO0 and it's on of the things that means 'summer' to me smiley - biggrin). Then they started using a montage of clips from the day's action set to some other music while the end credits were rolling, then the old theme made the briefest of appearances at the end of the first day's highlights show, but for the past few years it seems like it's been retired for good smiley - sadface

Everything's got to be so bloody slick and flash and full of attitude these days.

I've noticed in watching MOTD in the past few years that they're trying to make it look like a Playstation game - the effects when showing replays, the graphics to highlight particular players, the swooshing sound effects - it's a bit strange, since the video games started off by striving to look convincingly like televised sport, and now televised sport is striving to look like the video games. smiley - bigeyes

I'm thinking of compiling a Ten Commandments for broadcasters. One of them will most definitely be 'Thou shalt not use pointless sound effects for their own sake, or because some spotty oik in the editing suite thinks it would be cool'.

Others will include...

Thou shalt not speak over the end credits
Thou shalt not squeeze the end credits to one side of the screen so that thou can trail other programmes
Thou shalt not use an on-screen channel logo throughout the programme
Thou shalt not use any kind of on-screen animation during the programme
