A name from the past that's remembered with less than fondness. I rather like Centre Point though http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centre_Point It has more appeal than either brutalist concrete or plain glass skyscrapers.

Pierre Boulez.

I only put this here because it represents just about everything that was wrong with 20th century classical music. In short, a cacophony for hipsters who thought they were superior because they could see the emperor's new clothes.

I only stopped listening to Junior Choice when I started going to Saturday morning flicks, and then came back to it when I stopped. I am, however also old enough to remember its predecessor - Children's Favourites, with Uncle Mac smiley - bigeyes

Nigel Boocock

He died last April, it says here. I had no idea. The Boocock brothers (Nigel and Eric) were two of the biggest names in British speedway during the few seasons I got into it. Very happy memories, those. The smell of burning oil always takes me right back to the old Brooklands Stadium (not *that* Brooklands) in Romford smiley - brave

First Lemmy, then Bowie. Keith Richards... not dead yet. As far as anyone can tell.

I posted this elsewhere, but I'll share it here as well.

This was the first time I saw David Bowie, on SNL in 1979. I had never seen anything like it.

frankly speaking I'm having a lot of difficulty processing this one. It came out of left field and has knocked me sideways.

I was a little surprised meself, bearing in mind that he put out a new album last Friday on his 69th birthday. I woke up early again this morning, turned on the radio to find the World Service was still on (meaning it was pre-5am) and they were talking about Bowie, so I figured it was a piece about his latest release and his influence on music over the decades, until I noticed they kept referring to him in the past tense.

I replied to a friend of mine, in a convo we've been having about the new album on facebook. She got it on pre-order and I've been dithering about getting it on vinyl - I'd heard it was rather excellent and decided to give this one a go (I haven't bothered with most of his stuff since about the mid-90s)

I wrote a reply, got off the bus. Walked to the office, looked at my phone and there it was: breaking news.

Still stunned, tbh.

I bet the Tories would love that - only paying state pension for four or five years, or not at all if their plan to make people work until they're 70 comes to fruition smiley - cross

I'd have added Lemmy as well.
