I really like Skipton Castle - A2350171 just hoping that the Bolton & Embsay Railway gets to expand into Skipton, but at least the North Yorkshire Moors Railway now has a platform in Whitby.

Exciting times in February!

As if I wasn't doing enough already, I seem to have also started working on the other half's old Land Rover.

It's been off the road for a year and a half, because the garage told us it wouldn't get through another MOT without a new chassis. Okay we said, we'll lay her up over winter and get a new chassis in the new year. Phone them in the new year for a quote... okay, they'll get back to us.

It's now mid-August, and apart from us chasing them a couple of times, they still haven't got back to us.

Tried another garage, same story.

Phone up one that doesn't specialise in old Land Rovers, and they at least had a chat with me and told me that there's at least a year's wait on new chassis, as they're all made to measure. Why the other's couldn't tell us this, I've no idea.

By pure chance though, the other night we found out that any vehicle built or register before 1960 doesn't actually need an MOT. So t'other half went along to the Post Office with the appropriate forms, and got a new Tax Disc without having to produce an MOT certificate. The Land Rover is back on the road.

So, top tip: If you don't want to pay for MOTs or Tax, buy a pre-1960's car.

Pastey, there are similar rules for emissions controls here, though they vary state to state.
I'll soon be taking over stewardship of a pair of 60's Saabs. These won't need to go through emissions testing in Utah at least.

Another flying visitsmiley - run
Thanks for the well wishes. Leg is now in a below the knee plaster so it is a bit more comfortable. Boat is now on its mooring on the Medway so it is not costing me any extra money.
Looks like I am going to be laid up for another couple of months yet.

Woke up this morning and there is snow on the mountains, in August.

Sounds a reasonable sort of place for smiley - snowman to be.

Growing up, I saw snow in 1984, 1985 and 1994. Then I moved to the mainland where it snows every couple of years.

I'm currently planning a cycle ride for me and t'other half tomorrow. We're aiming to do the Irwell Sculpture Trail, which with getting to the start, and getting back afterwards, will be a total of around 50 miles.

I'm not sure if we're mad or not. But we will have all day to do it, and it should be fine as long as we're not out late tonight.

It's uphill for the first 17 miles, then sloping down for the next 35 before uphill for the last two on the way home.

I'll report back, hopefully soon.
