We had a little melting today, but the snow banks are routinely five or six feet tall. The ones at the edges of parking lots are 8 to 10 feet tall. The snow at the side of my house is as high as the doorknob of my back door.

But our snow is nowhere near as high as that on the Labrador Highway:

Well at least you could build a bloody snowman not enough for snow balls here.
Oh that reminds me why are snowmen always eunuchs, is it cold enough to freeze em off.

Labrador was traditionally considered the most uninhabitable region on the north American mainland even by the pre-Columbian native Americans.
It to this day still includes the largest remaining trackless wilderness in mainland north America.

With snow that deep, how would there be settlements?

I always imagined weasels to be a lot larger than woodpeckers, though. Was this a baby weasel?

It was full grown.
I used to keep a couple of the very similar American short-tailed weasels for pets.
What they lack in size they make up for in sheer, utter viciousness.
Weasels have a bad reputation for rading chicken runs.
Hard to credit, given their size, if you're unacquainted with their temperament.
I have seen a good report of a carried away by a mallard drake it had jumped.
No photo attached to that one though.
A mature mallard drake is the size of a small turkey.

Ancient Chinese proverb says: Sensible dogs don't bite the hands that feed them. Likewise sensible cats don't bite the birds they ride - in particular if these birds fly high

Do weasels really chase monkeys around cobblers' benches and go "Pop"?
