Guido Westerwelle - this one really shocked me. I am surprised how much, but he wasn't the sort of person on the radar for this sort of thing. Yesterday another German Politician, Lothar Späth, also died, but he was old and had retired.
Guido Westerwelle was leader of the FDP, the liberal party, which, like the liberals in the UK, was losing seats and declining rapidly. He was gay, and no one had anything bad to say against him. As far back as I can remember, the ruling party has coalesced with the FDP who always provided the Foreign Minister. Guido Westerwelle took this over from Hans-Dietrich Genscher (maybe there were others in between), and was therefore known in world politics as well.

TC I'm shocked and sad about Westerwelle too. My political views didn't tally completely with his but as a politician I found him full of integrity and honest in a way that a lot of others don't manage to achieve.

It says his leukemia was diagnosed in 2014, although doesn't say what kind. If a chronic version he may not have seemed ill, although should have had a near normal life expectancy.
However, since he was so young, I expect it was an acute version and assume after diagnosis he'd had palliative treatment to delay it a little, and then got on with his life. However, eventually blood counts will drop and the abnormal blasts rise again - this all happens very quickly and dramatically in a matter of days. For example, with AML, 70% of people in his age bracket wouldn't survive to 3 years post-diagnosis.

Although no fan I can appreciate his skill and fame.

Alas, the Wee man has been stretchered off to play an eternal game of golf with his shaggy 
stories to tell at the 19th.
He had avoid life in the entertainment industry, culminating in the eponymous Two Ronnies.
He will be missed. A great raconteur, little funny man and public speaker.

Two in one day!
Dame Zaha Hadid, the Architect who designed the Aquatic Centre for the London Olympics, 2010.
She also was the first woman Arcitect to win the Riba gold away, which she only collected last month.
A real shame, dying from a heart attack at 65.
