I stuffed my novel with food and decided it was a symbol of loving and giving. (As my heroine's family falls to pieces, the meals get more basic, while Francois the chef cooks up grand meals in his restaurant.)
I also stuffed it with descriptions of the weather - so it starts in a hot July and the action finishes in a cold and wet December.
Snag is that isn't all this stuff a bit hackneyed?
