The first time I read those words, I knew I had discovered something amazing. Science fiction that was true while being humorous.

Although I think Adams is one of the most brilliant philosophers of our time (right up there with Vonnegut), I think his most important work is not a work of philosophy at all. "Last Chance to See" should be required reading for anyone who spends any time at all on Planet Earth. I still occasionally do a Google search to keep up with the kakapo population (now up to 86!)
