Is there a name for a two-way palindrome?

The only example I can think of is "oxo". It's the same backwards, and it also works as a palindrome in a upward direction.

BOB
When all in capitals you can put a mirror horizontally through the middle.

How about:
X - it marks the spot and is 10
XX - Two kisses
XXX - Extra-strong mints
XXXX - Extra-strong Beer

Honorable mention:
WOW upside down is MOM. Both are palindromes, though not the same palindrome.

"if you flip a "S" upside down you get a "Z" (zed) even if it does have curvy corners'."
Not when I do it. It's an S either way.

The only way I can think of to create a 2-way palindrome is to pivot the letters on an horizontal plane. This is obvious by the example in post #8.
In a normal palindrome we reverse the order of the letters, not the font itself, as most are a single line this would be meaningless unless you flip the font

What you're describing sounds a bit like an ambigram.

sorry

Ah, but it has an axis of rotational symmetry going through the centre of I
So SIS is still symmetric, just in a different way

If I write the alphabet (all in capitals) the following letters are the same upside-down as the "right" way up.
HINOSXZ -
so any palindrome with those letters in it will fit the bill. (Not many!)
Bluebottle's method with the mirror in post 3 gives a few more letters, but excludes many others - such as N, S and Z.
