In general it would be based on occupied nest number surveys, informed through known breeding habitat range and distribution.

The idea of bird counts is to monitor changes in population so that research can be carried out to improve future conservation management and establish what threats there are to different species.

I feel sad when I read r hear about birds that get killed flying too close to airplanes or hitting transmission towers.
