Why am I laughing so long and hard at this story?

'Vicious' fox traps eight people
"None of us could get out. When we tried to use a side door, the FOX heard and came HARING round there."
"A man who tried to outpace the creature on his bicycle was chased into a field and fell off, losing his glasses in the process."
I really, genuinely lol'd

I saw the photo and thought "is that it?"
I was expecting the guy in the Foxy Bingo suit with a machete.

I'm glad to say it could never happen here. I mean, the headline would be:

Not a front page item but...
Martin Rowson is a very sharp cartoonist in the Guardian and other places, but here is a written piece he did originally for Tribune Magazine.

Did anyone see the FA welcome home message to our wonderful Women footballers on their return from their fantastic World Cup performance? Honestly you couldn't make it up, apparently it was removed post-haste but it tells you all you need to know about the FA, Respect!!! They truly haven't got a clue. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/england/11721247/FA-posts-then-removes-sexist-tweet-about-England-Womens-team.html

"The common question is 'would they have posted this type of thing for the men?' to which the answer is obviously, 'no, the men would never do that well in a major tournament'."

That FA tweet reads like the voiceover to a Pathe Newsreel. Say it in a received pronunciation accent, and you're back in the 1950s.
It's not sexist, it's just 60 years out of date

Words fail me. This happened not far from me and the thought that people were possibly dying as I drove past unawares is unsettling. That the police were informed and did nothing for three days is staggering.

That's appalling. I wonder whether police cutbacks are partly to blame.

I thought the various press reactions to the budget were interesting, that's how sad I am, but there seems to be a consensus that Mr Osborne has completely out manoeuvred everybody. The Guardian is suggesting that the £9 per hour pledge is not actually giving anybody anything much, but still acknowledges that politically it's a bit of a masterstroke. Are we all that cynical, couldn't it be that he's just a nice guy who wants to help the poorest workers out a bit?

Every budget has winners and losers. Those dependent on child tax credits lost heavily, which is a surprising move, as these support families and only apply to those who already work hard and pay tax.
To abandon that for the more headline-grabbing "maybe up to £9 per hour in 5 years time" is the cynical bit. It's basically a marketing ploy. How often have you seen sale signs saying "up to 70% off" when inside you can only find a few manky items at 20% off.
