That's one place I'm looking forward to visiting if/when it gets here.

I'd never thought of the Smithsonian as nationalistic until reading that article. Somewhere along the way there seems to have been some mission drift from "an establishment for the increase and diffusion of knowledge among men," to "to tell America's story," and "America's history and contributions to science."

I've never been to the Smithsonian (or DC), but I'd always thought of it as a very broad collection of science and culture, not as specifically "American". It seems odd that they would focus on the US as they open a branch in the UK.

That said, maybe it does make sense. If the Tate or the Royal Society were to open a branch in the US I would absolutely expect it to be "British".

There's already an American Museum in the UK - near Bath.

Has lots of colonial exhibits and things.

Nothing's changed, really, I treat America's success as that of my forebears smiley - winkeye

I used to go to the American Museum at Bath when I was a child. A loooong time ago. It was always very exciting (we didn't have the interwebs back then).

Well I was completely amazed by the story about the cat that got knocked down, and apparently killed in Tampa USA. It's distraught owner asked a neighbour to bury it and watched him do it. A few days later and it's crawled back home with a broken jaw and minus an eye, but Bart is now recovering well after some very expensive veterinary treatment! No punch line I'm afraid, I just marvel at the resourcefulness and survival instinct of our feline friends!

I didn't think of Pet Cemetery until you mentioned it.

My first thoughts were some amalgam of these two classics.

The word "Here" now has to be patented. Speaking objectively, I reckon an anglophone company should have priority over a Finnish one, but then, they thought of it first.

I still haven't got over the Mazda thing. Every time I see a Mazda (car), I always say to myself "Next time, Sir John, get a Mazda (light bulb)"
