I have been looking for the story about the woman in the closet in my local Japanese newspaper and I didn't find anything about it , It didn't make the news on Japanese TV here either.
I did see it on the BBC yesterday as an undernote?
I do know that the police here cannot go into peoples houses which can help in some cases

I liked this one in the Swindon Adver
A speed camera was burnt out in Chiseldon ,then it goes on to say "the police said a tyre was set on fire then draped over the camera, it could be a copycat"
fancy the police telling people how not to do it If I was going to do that I'd hang the tyre first then add a drop of gas plus spark and then

It's nice to see women standing up for equal rights in a Muslim society.

The Royal Navy are a bit reticent though. If they capture any Somali pirates, Britain cannot hand them over to the Somali government as that would be in breach of the HRA. The RN would face the possibility that we would have to return them to the UK, where they could claim asylum.

UK man charged at Guantanamo Bay
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7434920.stm
Why do the BBC persist in calling this man British. He isn't. His only connection to the UK is he once lived here. He was arrested in Pakistan. By the same measure if the US arrested Thierry Henry, would the BBC be calling for the release of a "British footballer"?

They call him a British resident rather than a British citizen.
He may have been granted residency without citizenship.

Going Dutch: Guardian readers say Brits must back the Netherlands in Euro 2008
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2008/jun/04/euro2008.netherlands
"In the final days of voting, the Dutch website GeenStijl (literally "no style") instigated a campaign to tilt the balance their country's way, eventually spawning a triumphant piece of hacking that gave Holland an improbable percentage of the votes."
Dutch rigged!?

Pass the Amarone!
'The Wisconsin scientists used a dose on mice equivalent to just 35 bottles a day. But red wine contains many other resveratrol-like compounds that may also be beneficial. Taking these into account, as well as mice's higher metabolic rate, a mere four, five-ounce glasses of wine "starts getting close" to the amount of resveratrol they found effective, Dr. Weindruch said.'
