A truly stupid idea with results so predictable
a lot of news pundits predicted it a few days ago
when this idea was revealed. The saddest part is
they will all now get to say I told ya so.

And with the sales of these drones setting whirled
records for Xmas it will not be long before a lot
of outcry and legislation and litigation will fill
the airwaves all winter long.
Hope no-one has to die...

Curiously...
Canada is way ahead of the curve on passing
anti-drone legislation - as part of anti-model-flying
generally - No flying within 500 feet of any crowded
event (sport/entertainment) venue, airport perimeter,
police or fire activity - and a ceiling limit of 300 feet
anywhere. Seizure of violating equipment will inevitably
involve shots being fired.

The UK has the same laws, distance above any crowd or populated area, etc, etc.

The problem is, people buying these drones in places like TK Maxx or Tesco don't know these laws exist, so will happily ignore them.

It was the same a few years ago when micro-scooters came onto the market. Kids (and adults) were riding these small motorbikes along footpaths because, well they were toys weren't they? They were certainly sold as toys.

And *that's* the problem. Technology that has laws governing its use being sold cheaply as toys with no training or licensing needed.
