Amy P's NaJoPoMo 2016--23

I've been talking about books online quite a bit in the last 24 hours (well, a lot for me--I tend to prefer to read *only*, with a lot of recesses spent writing book reports on books I'd finished days beforesmiley - laugh). Anyway, over on a book about faces, am h2g2 friend asked for recommendations for sci-fi. Given the parameters he gave, (which I think now I may have misunderstood--he'd asked about books similar to Banks' Culture series, which I've not read--I took it to mean he wanted books about different culturessmiley - blush Though, knowing him, that works, toosmiley - ok What made it interesting is that the books that came to mind immediately are currently in a box--we were going to paint our bedroom (it and the laundry room are now the only rooms the same color they were when we bought the house), which means moving my bookcase, which means *emptying* the bookcase... Progress stalled when I only had one box, which is holding just under a shelf-and-a-half's worthsmiley - laugh Anyway, since my books are alphabetical by author, that meant that my David Brins (Uplift War trilogy, the sequel trilogy that I still can't remember the name of, and a couple of stand-alones) are all boxed, which meant that coming up with exact titles was hard on a half-asleep brain. The late hour also meant that I kept posting with suggestions, instead of making one big post. And then, of course, today, I remembered a book over in Dmitri's NaJo (and typed it out twice, since RL had interrupted the first time, and I forgot to copy it just in case before I postedsmiley - cross

I got some more fudge made today, and I have the tri-tip roasts for tomorrow (no turkey, because of small fridge) marinating. I need to make a timeline for tomorrow, so I know when I need to start. It's just going to be the Paper Clan and Tom's parents, so we're not eating until late afternoon/early evening. I will be throwing some breakfasty stuff in the crock pot tonight, because otherwise, I'll be chasing snackers out of my tiny kitchen all day--two people can work together in the space, but add someone opening the fridge or the cupboards to browse, and forget it! There will be plenty of time to clean the crock pot before I need it for dinner, and, even if not, I've got more than one.
