Gnomon - time to move on

Entry: 'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King' (2003) - Film Review - A87875941
Author: Gnomon - U151503

Researcher Madent wrote us reviews of the first two Lord of the Rings films back in 2001 and 2002, but he never got around to doing an Entry on the third film. I've decided to fill this glaring hole in the Guide, although Film Reviews are not really my thing.

I think you have made a good job of this review.smiley - smileyIt's difficult to sum up the plot of The Lord of the Rings because it's such a complex book.

I'm surprised readers rate it the best novel of the twentieth century. smiley - erm In an adventure of this kind, characterisation comes second to plot. The heroes are interchangeable, and the most interesting character is probably Gollum.

I thought one of the changes between the novel and the film is that, in the novel, there is a battle of wills between Saruman and Gandalf, which was omitted from the film, to the annoyance of Christopher Lee, who played Saruman.

I like the way you've captured the flavour of the other two Entries so they will fit together as well as the three films do smiley - ok

Another strong entry.smiley - smiley

The only comment I would make is perhaps you could make it clearer that there are two versions of this film available, the original version released in the cinemas and the extended cut. Although you have mentioned a couple of times that there are scenes included in the extended cut.

Good point. I should probably say something about the Extended Edition.

I've added a very small section mentioning the DVD and the Extended Edition. I'm not going to fall into the trap of listing every single scene that was added into the Extended Edition - this is not that sort of entry.

Florida Sailor All is well with the world

I would like to know if they included any of 'the Souring of the Shire' in the extended version. That might entice me to buy a copy, but if not, I would not be interested. Might be worth a sentence.

The Scouring of the Shire was not included in the Extended Edition DVD.

Gnomon - time to move on

I've added a sentence about that, but I've had to move the whole DVD/ Extended DVD section to the end to make it fit.

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.

If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
