Okay, feel free to tell me that this sort of carry-on doesn't belong in the Edited Guide, and to take this kind of tendentious writing back to the Post where it belongs. And I will.

But what I started out trying to do was to contextualise two songs about the Holocaust - 'Dona Dona' and 'Ride 'Em Jewboy' - and explore what the metaphors were all about. All of the writers - composer Sholom Secunda, poet Aaron Zeitlin, and of course the inimitable Kinky Friedman - were just so interesting that I wanted to share them.

So let me know what you think.

This is a good sensitive piece that deserves to be seen. The topic will attract criticism but it's just fine here?

Well done good worksmiley - ok

Wilfred Owen being a local lad, we were brought up to appreciate the power of 'words' that brought home suffering, sacrifice and atrocities , so why not sing about them if it gets the message across to a wider audience?

I remember listening to Todd Rundgren singing about Hiroshima, that song had me in tears!

Well done DG.

I wondered about this for a while, because it links an eclectic mix of songs and words and I wondered if they all belonged in the same article. But I think the message is clear enough. Singing and writing about suffering can help people put themselves in the shoes of those who suffer.smiley - brokenheart

Only one quibble: will everyone who reads this know that the Shoah and the Holocaust were the same thing?

That's a good question, MVP. Maybe it needs a note.
