Mushy Peas... wonderful stuff.

I've found that the packets of dried peas provide a really good source of 'marrowfat' large peas. Okay it's a bit longer to have to soak them overnight, but they make great 'mush'.

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side...

I've actually started writing... how long have I got? smiley - yikes Though I'm wondering now if I should do the teacake recipe, but as taht's mainly a recipe from others on the net I looked at, maybe I should do the one for my onion and poppy seed bread instead, as I did basically invent that one myself as a consequence of conversations with a friend who was/is a baker smiley - weirdsmiley - doh I should be making bread today but couldn't muster up the energy, and its a bit late now smiley - dohsmiley - weird

Useually.... but not always in the exact way I predicted it might smiley - snork I only tend to vaguely measure things out when I'm doing baking, so everythign else tends to be variable from time to time of cooking the so-called same thing... smiley - snork
Actually attempting to create something random tonight, if I have the energy when its dinner time... I've some Indian paneer cheese, which I want to use up (and try)... Seen various recipies using it, but have a vague idea of doing something simular but differnt to what I've seen, as I think it oughta go well with mushrooms, and I should start using them up... smiley - zen Hopefully it'll be edible, if not actually 'nice' or 'tasy' smiley - snorksmiley - doh

Paneer cheese tastes good in a cream sauce with green peas. Mushrooms would be good in the mix, too, I suppose. I'm not sure which Indian spices would set it off properly.

"The North Indian curry made with mutter (peas) and paneer (cottage cheese) is probably the most frequently ordered dish in Indian restaurants. Make it in your home and you've got a sure crowd pleaser!"
[Ot's called Mutter Paneer]
http://indianfood.about.com/od/vegetarianrecipes/r/mutterpaneer.htm

Besides paneer and peas, it has tomatoes, onions, and the following spices and sauces:

1 tbsp ginger paste
2 tbsps garlic paste
2 tsps coriander powder
1 tsp cumin powder
2 tsps garam masala
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
2 green chillies chopped fine
6 tbsps of oil
1 1/2 cups water
Salt to taste
3 tbsps thickened/ double/ heavy cream
Coriander leaves chopped fine to garnish

Alas, I can't translate the teaspoons and cups into measurements that
would be familiar to UK researchers.

I can useually guestimate the translation from cups to here... judging by the amoutn of other ingredients smiley - weird I went for a chicken curry in the end, wasn't sure the paneer would be enough to fill me up smiley - blush using yogart as the base for the sauce (which I had to sweeten a bit as it was getting a little sour really) smiley - blush chillies, ginger, onion diced, onion sliced, garlic, cumin seed, mustard seed, fennel seed and tumeric and garum mucarla ... probably put too many chillies in smiley - snork But at least I've finished off the giant pot of veg/spicey basmati rice/pilo/pilaf I made days back now smiley - zen
Fancy something differnt tommorrow night... leek and stilton soup maybe, or bulger wheet with sausages in onion/veg gravey smiley - drool (Its starting to feel about right here now for winter warming food smiley - blush ) smiley - erm must finish writing the guide entry or entrys though smiley - run

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side...

eek. I must finish this by... err whenever it is we need to finish it by smiley - doh doing two, which is almost three, the 'poppy seed and onion bread', which is kinda recipe I invented, and also the toasted teacakes, which is more a recipie I've adapted a bit, and maybe also the 'leek and Stilton soup', but I'll probably just tag that recipe on the end of the bread one, as its a good accompanyment to make to go with the bread... (yes, the soup is to go with the bread, not the bread to go with the soup.... smiley - snorksmiley - silly ) smiley - zen If I had the energy... and the space in the bread bin, I'd make crumpets today, and hopefully* finialise the recipie, and get that written up too smiley - zensmiley - doh < smiley - headhurts There is only so* much bread one can eat smiley - puffsmiley - run

Should I submit it to peer review?

Of course you should. Be prepared for suggestions though smiley - smiley from the reviewers.

One thing to consider, your title. Your recipe doesn't include yam. You suggest it as an alternative ingredient though? Perhaps if you wrote the recipe with yam as the vegetable of choice, and put sweet potatoes as the alternative, it would be a truer title? I do like the title though.

Good luck!

I may* get a chance today too, to finish the toasted teacake recipe and submitt that, but as I've one already in PR now, I may not rush that and put it in when I've actually finished it smiley - doh Crumpets, multigrain rolls just need a bit of tinkering too before they're done, and then there's the mushy peas to come too at some point smiley - puff h2g2 is doing nothing to stem my apertite at the moment smiley - dohsmiley - droolsmiley - pandasmiley - hotdog

Congratulations to all who took part. I feel especially grateful to the contributors and supporters this month as real life has intruded into my h2g2 time. So, I want to say a special thank you to everyone for committing to this month's round of Peer Reviewed recipes. There are some amazingly tempting things to eat. smiley - smiley

Here is the code to decorate your personal space with - for all those who took part.

I've had to add additional spaces after/before the angled brackets, in order for the code to show up in Pliny. Pliny treats anything between angled brackets as a smiley, and discards anything that's not a proper smiley.
