BR: False "Illegal Use of Ampersand" Error reported when trying to update Uspace

Post 1

I'm trying to add a link to my User page. But I'm getting an error on an existing link. I have a link to the brunel version of the Convo Popup.

Convo Popup
Journal Conversation List

This has been working fine for months. It still works right now. But if I try to edit the page, this returns "Illegal Use of Ampersand" errors in bold red text in the "Convo Popup" link. See Below.

This happens whether I make changes to my GuideML or not making it impossible to edit my page without changing this line or removing it.

Odd... I never successfully updated my Uspace because of this error.

Yet now when I click on that Convo Popup link from Pliny or even in Brunel, it no longer functions. I've changed nothing, yet now it's broke.

I suppose I can work around this by deleting that line and replacing it with one to my Brunel Uspace which still has the popup link on the side bar.

This is some very curious behaviour unless someone's been tinkering with the code while I've been trying to update my page.

Which link is it? There's a malformed link to within the "(But didn't get around to saying anything until 10 October)", is that it?

Good morning Pastey... did you get a chance to look around?

I've been waiting to see if this "fixed itself", but apparently I don't have form 27B/6.

Since my last posting, I've noticed my other link, the one to my journal postings, also now returns an "Oops" page in Pliny (whether I'm in pliny or not).

I just opened up my journal convo list in brunel and it now has a slightly different URL, but replacing it still returns an "Oops". The new URL is [ http://www.h2g2.com/dna/h2g2/brunel/F105207?showthread=8308078 ].

My new link to my Uspace in Brunel is still working and getting me to my brunel convo popup, so I'm not put out much, but getting to my brunel list of journal postings is a bit more inconvenient. (In pliny, I can only see around 5 of the latest postings only and they're the full postings, not just a list of subject lines. When I want to find one older, Brunel's list is much quicker.)

OK... I think I've found the problem, but I don't know what's causing it.

From Gosho's journal F50359?thread=8309090 we've found that ripley links are getting and extra /dna/h2g2/ thrown in to the URLs.

Even though they're displaying the proper links, when they're clicked on or even hovered over,

For instance http://www.h2g2.com/dna/h2g2/brunel/F105207?showthread=7512008 becomes http://www.h2g2.com/dna/h2g2/dna/h2g2/brunel/F105207?showthread=7512008

It might just be a typo in the code handling links.

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

So it could be that, rather than Avast which was causing the problem... although h2g2 wasn't the only website that was giving the PC or the browser grief, and it certain;y wouldn't account for the timeouts on traceroute.
