Conn's Syndrome WIP

0 Conversations

Conn's (or Conns) Syndrome is a chemical malfunction in human adrenal glands, causing an overproduction of the hormone aldosterone, which then directly increases blood pressure and if left untreated makes it difficult for the body to digest and absorb potassium.

Conn's can be caused by several things and can be treated or cured, depending on the underlying issue.

First defined by Dr. Conn in the 1940s. (another article on Dr. Conn?)

It is considered rare, although research does not agree on how often it occurs. Standard guidelines suggest one person in 1 000 000 may have it, but other research has suggested 1 in 6 of persons with high blood pressure has it.

Keyhole surgery, medication for life.

High blood pressure, low potassium = heart attack.
