World Aids Day - 1st December 2009

0 Conversations

Next Tuesday is World Aids Day, a day for raising awareness of, and fundraising for, HIV/Aids.

33 million people worldwide live with HIV, 80,000 of them in the UK, 2 million more are diagnosed each year and approximately 2 million die of AIDS related illnesses annually.

Being a disease largely passed on through ignorance or carelessness the most effective way to stop HIV/AIDS is through education and awareness. The latest figures indicate that new HIV infections have fallen worldwide by 17%. This is fantastic news and shows how well education can work.

If you can, try to do something for World Aids Day. Pop a few leaflets around, sell a few red ribbons, put up some posters. All are available from the Terrence Higgins Trust, at pretty short notice (I grabbed some this very afternoon!)

The battle against HIV is a winnable one. Please help humanity win it.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
