'. . . talking of pancakes, I was walking out on the wee road by Brewery Hill, up by Paterson's Farm, when I saw this thing in the sky, coming down. I waited and as it glided down I saw that it was a man in a parachute: a wide one, three stripes one red one blue and one a kind of orangey-green that I've never seen before. He landed like an expert, I think. He had on one of these flying suits and the largest pair of Aviators that I have ever seen. Rolling up his chute he saw me and gave me a big smile; naturally I gave him a big smile back. Next thing he goes over to the hedgerow and pulls out a big motor-bike that he must've known was there.Before he jumped on it he pulled one of the big wing mirrors clean off, no bother, and threw it toward me. "You can keep that, if you like." he said. And then he was off. Just you talking about pancakes reminded me."
