A Conversation for h2g2 On the Move

Tell h2g2 Login Problem

I connect over WAP and try to "Tell h2g2". When asked to log in, I've tried my E-mail address, any my user number both with and without the initial U. None seem to work - the system persistently claims it doesn't know me. Boo hoo... What shall I do now?

Hmmm. This is always the point at which problems appear for new phones.

I'm guessing you're being sent the WML version of h2g2 On the Move (as opposed to the HDML version which has a "Translate a phrase" option under "Ask h2g2", or the cHTML version which looks a bit different). This uses WMLScript in order to log you in and different browsers have wildly varying levels of support for WMLScript.

As long as you have a password on h2g2 you should be able to log in to the On the Move site. Your username is either your user number in the form "U268" (or "268", it doesn't matter!) and your password is as normal. Remember that your password is case-sensitive.

If you still can't get in, try the cHTML service at http://mobile.h2g2.com/html/ and make use of the HTML capabilities of your new phone! smiley - smiley

I tried the cHTML version, too... Again, same problem, I tried U44253, 44253, usual password, but nothing doing. Same problem as on the WML site - h2g2 doesn't recognise me. Silly question: might this have something to do with the fact that I have a session open here in my regular web browser at the same time?

Having a session open in your web browser shouldn't make any difference at all.

It's very weird that you can't get in using the HTML version - that doesn't do anything fancy at all. Let me check the logs later today and see what I can find.

Thanks!

I suggest moving this off the conversation board until a solution is found. After all, it's pretty irrelevant until we know what's going on. Contact me at: [email protected]
