A Conversation for Ghosts

Good article, and a fine attempt at objectivity. I did what was asked and presumed the existence of ghosts, but you did not indicate what we should assume the "ghost" represented.
This (shortened) story suggests one alternative. (I have merely been assured that it represents a true event)
A married woman has dreamed, for years, of walking through a very familiar house which she cannot remember visiting, ever. She has described it, in detail, to her husband many times. She speaks of standing at the front door and describing the view.
After years, on a vacation with hubby, driving through a town which neither of them has ever had reason to pass, she screams at him to stop. She declares that this is "the place" and runs to the front porch.
Knocking, she waits. The owner comes to the door and turns white with shock. The married woman is recognized as the neighborhood "ghost" which many neighbors have reported seeing over the years as it walked past windows or stood in the front doorway.
Still a mystery is why this house? I don't believe they ever sussed a connection.
It's sort of a repeating doppleganger sort of story, long-distance.

This is a case of OBE (Out of Body Experience). The person's mind & soul travelling beyond the confines of reality, or the real world anywhere. smiley - star

Hello, FT... I have heard the story (the live woman who is the neighbourhood 'ghost') about many places and times, though the origin has been traced to England in the 1890s.

I do believe it's a true story... and I like MLW's OBE explanation.

smiley - starThanks, Della April. I guess this isn't really a GHOST story after all. But that DOESN'T mean that other ghost stories are explainable by science. By the way, I had an OBE 3 times throughout my life, so I know it's true. I've also experienced (seen, heard, felt, touched) ghostly happenings myself. My left arm would turn icy cold before a ghostly occurence happens. So I know they're REAL. (Maybe I should be a shaman?)
Anyway, I belive you would be interested in HAUNTED HOUSES. Why not check out the Borley Rectorey case? It's nice to have people like you interested in the quest for answers in the PARANORMAL.smiley - star

I've read something about Borley Rectory, didn't it burn down?

I have had one or two paranormal events myself, but even though I am a Christian, I am also sceptical by nature... odd, but true.

Tell us about your OBEs, please!

I can't remember my 1st OBE anymore, since I was only in Kindergarten.

The 2nd OBE happened when I was a kid between 7 to 9 years old (it's fuzzy, sorry). I dreamt of entering a red castle, with red carpeting & chandeliers inside. It was only 2 days later when my mom took me out shopping when I saw a new hotel. It was the splitting image of the castle in my dream. But it was white, & of course we can't go inside. However, a few days later, while going out for dinner with my parents at night, we passed by the same hotel, & IT WAS RED! Well, not really. The spotlight on its walls shone a crimson red light across the hotel walls.

The 3rd OBE happened only 2 years ago. I was in bed. Then I 'got up' slowly. But it didn't feel as though my body has moved. In fact, my body was light as air. Strange thing is, I was partially controlling my movement! I jumped across my room, glided over my sleeping family, & went THROUGH the window. I began jumping from 1 lampost to the next, till I reached the shopping complex where I always go shopping. I glided across the car parks, through the security door, & into the shopping complex. Then, I stopped. I started to feel that I was waiting for something. Suddenly, I was yanked backwards all the way back to my body! I was shocked! & I knew it wasn't JUST a dream. Strange thing about this OBE is that I saw through its 'journey' towards a designated place.smiley - fullmoon

Wow!

I had a strange dream before 2001 - that I was with my brother in a place that had an indoor conservatory, with a lawn and everything, we saw through picture windows two planes fly over and crash in a gully behind the building where we were. Where he lived didn't have picture windows. Then, about three weeks later, he took me to where he was living, since having moved. Yes, an indoor conservatory (fake grass though, not real) and picture windows, but no plane crash...However, from what I can remember, 18 months later, 911 and the real event matches that dream and one a few weeks later... Not an OBE AFAIK, but other dreams I've had could have been...I remember one in which I was trying to persuade these women working in a New York fashion house (a loft/warehouse place - the kind that became really trendy for work/living space in the 90s) that I was really there with them...

I believe that certain dreams we have actually are shared with the people in them, who are there with us... but I can't say how I know, I just do.

A fascinating subject. Our night life may be just as real as our waking life, though on another plane, so to speak, although *most* dreams are just GIGO, as all dreams are popularly supposed to be.

smiley - starYou're not alone, my friend. During the 2002 Water Festival, a drawing & coloring contest was organized. My sister took part. 2 days before that, I had a dream. In the dream, my sister drew a German castle & won the 1st prize. So the next morning I went through my encyclopedias & found the exact same castle. It was in Germany. I told my sister to train herself with drawing this castle. When the Water Festival contest came, my sister drew the castle, colored it, & passed it up. She won 1st place.smiley - fullmoon

smiley - starLast week's Monday (22 May 2006), my mum's room was 'disturbed' by a ghostly presence! It was early morning, I was still asleep. My mum shocked me awake & told me that 'something' has entered her room. Her hair stood on end, & she could smell something rotting in her room. So I (sleepily) got up, took my Koran & (sleepily) headed to my mum's room. Inside her room, I didn't feel anything. My hair didn't stand & my left hand wasn't cold (like when a real ghost is present). But the smell was there, the smell of Frangipangi flowers (used by many Eastern people to apeace the soul of the Dead). So I opened my Koran & (sleepily) read the 1st/opening chapter (Al Fatihah) of the Holy book. When I finished, the smell (slowly) started to disperse. When the smell was totally gone, my mum went back to her room & I to mine. We caught back our zzzzs. Amazing thing was, I wasn't at all scared. Or maybe I was too sleepy? But not too sleepy to read the Holy book.smiley - fullmoon

smiley - star They say ghosts can only exist if you believe in them, so a place where the majority are made of non-believing people will be safe from ghostly attacks. They're wrong. In in Sabah, Malaysia, where I live & where Muslims (who don't believe in ghosts) make up the majority, spiritual happenings went on a higher scale during the Hungry Ghost Season. The beach called Pantai Dalit, the large shadow in Kota Kinabalu, the man attacked by a clawed 'devil', & the multitude of phantom figures I (yes, me MasLightningWolf) have seen rustling, running, walking & flying about. It was truly scary. Don't even get me started on the 'Dead birds being blown about in the wind' story.smiley - fullmoon

I don't have to ask about the dead birds story... it scares me already! (I am terrified of birds, dead ones especially.)
