Thank you for sharing this poignant story! It illustrates the way in which historical research is really all about people.

Also, by telling it in the way you have, you have given us invaluable pointers for genealogical research.

Thanks again for a great entry!smiley - biggrin

Thank you also for your comments.
When I first started out with this research I did not intend to write anything but as all of the information came together it seemed a shame to just leave it on my computer, hence the story on h2g2.

Thanks again for your comments

Thanks for that Farawaylady.
Yes, it is a sad story but a long time ago. I think it is good that people can now read about Elaine and that she will be remembered for a while.
Thanks again and dont be too sad !!

Wow, what a great piece of research! Loved the way you wrote your entry. The picture and comment on the front page intruiged me, even though I'd never heard of her, it just made me want to read about this little girl. It's nice to know she is being remembered so many years after she lived.

Thanks for the entry, it made me go goosebumpy!

Just thought that I would let you all know that last week I received an email from a John Rivis in USA. He is the great great nephew of Elaines Grandmother and I am now the proud owner of 2 beautiful photo`s. One of Jane Anderson ( Elaines grandmother ) and one of Jessie Hawkes ( Elaines Aunt with whome she stayed at The Royal Spithead Hotel ).
John has been researching his family and came across my site. It is possible that he may also have photos of Elaine but he is unable to be sure of the identity of the people in some of the pictures.

I am over the moon about this....such is the power of the internet.

I will try and update my site with these pictures as soon as I can but I dont think I have much room left so I might have to re do it.

A local Isle of Wight author Jan Toms has recently published a book called " Pushing up the Daisies " which tells the stories behind gravestones and memorials that can be found in cemetaries on the Isle of wight.
Jan has included a small piece about Elaine. I was invited to the book launch but was not able to attend but she did send me a copy of the book.
