Columbus Day

Here in the USA we celebrate Columbus Day on the second Monday in October. I don't think this date has anything to do with when Columbus landed; it's just a convenient time for a holiday.

Most USA residents who have jobs, work on Columbus Day. The exception is those who have government jobs.

Most people who have parades for the holiday are Italian. In recent years, people have protests at these parades, because Columbus was obviously an evil man who wished to enslave American aboriginals (or so the theory goes).

Canada has its Thanksgiving Day on the same day. I don't know of any protests over Thanksgiving in Canada.
