Arcachon and biscarrose just around the corner from bordeaux are two sreas worth visiting.
We first discovered this area in 1977 which gives my age away.
The summers are hot, the beaches , especially Biscaross Plage , are brilliant and it is mych cheaper than the Riviera.
if the day is wet and rainy you can arrange a visit around one of the many Chateaux in the nearby Medoc. Flights to bordeaux are fairly frequent or you can enjoy a nice scenic drive down the left hand side of france.
