A Conversation for Alaskan Fish Plants

Fish Plant Preparedness

You mean the article made you NOT want to go? Drat...well so much for tone.

I was wondering though, despite all of you hitchhikers who don't want to get out there...would anybody be interested in a survival check-list for what to bring if you do send people to a fish plant?

Just curious. Thanks for the feedback though...I'm all warm and fuzzy. (Only one of which is a sensation that you ever experience in Alaska)

Oh yes, great job promoting the fish plants. All seems rather grusome....I mean, freeze-dried hamburgers for 3 months straight? That has to be torture. Another question: if it's Alaska, why bother to freeze dry them? Why don't they just stick them outside the door? It has the same effect here in New England 4-6 months a year.

No no...you see...you can't just stick them out the door because the salmon runs are in the summer in Alaska, which contrary to popular belief, is actually rather warm. (It sometimes gets as warm as 70 degrees farenheight) he he he

But seriously, when you've been subsisting on nothing but macaroni and cheese, and rice with cream of mushroom soup, for several weeks, freeze-dried hamburgers are sought after prizes. I remember Inventory Controllers (who were in charge of cold storage) hiding away a stash of the coveted "Cheeseburgers!!!" away.

Don't tell me about cold. It was 20 degrees(farenheit) today, and my friends and I were walking along, saying, "my, it's nice out. I hope the thaw lasts." Then I slipped on the Ice That Coats Everything and fell into the snow.
Ah, well, I gave up beef some time ago.

It was even warmer today. It might've even gotten all the way up to 30 degrees farenheit today.

Hrm.. I must say... I just saw two rabbits chasing across the yard in the final light (barely) of day.. Dare I be curious of Spring's imminent arrival?

Yes. The ice is melting, the birds are chirping. The rain is falling. But the allergies haven't kicked in yet, so it can't really be spring. It's never spring without hayfever.

Today was actually rather nice. A bit brisk, but sunny and nice just the same.. Did spit a few snow showers towards evening and did a nice dip in temp, but after the coooooooooooooold snap we had before, this still feels springish, despite the frost that appeared on my car after a brief trip into a market. smiley - winkeye
