My teenage daughter does not bother to put the excess stuff into a box: she kicks it under the bed to make more room for new stuff. 
In some future age, archeologists will spend days and months carefully excavating our house, particularly the rich trove of late 20th century clothing, lifestyle props and detritus found under a fosillised bed! 
Beds are useful too

I use the TOP of my bed for all my junk-- I sleep in the floor. It's actually quite comfy, and I don't like sleeping on my bed because it squeaks. I'm allowed a new one once I tidy my room (Which is never, I just can't. I'm terrible at getting rid of stuff since I always once it when it's gone).
