I heard about a mobile phone nuisance who constantly made calls & talked business very loudly during a long train journey. Then an emergency arose (someone taken ill I think) and he was asked to lend his phone to call a doctor. Imagine his embarrassment at having to admit the phone wasn't actually connected to a service 
Just because it's apocryphal doesn't mean it isn't true!
