Well hello there! This is me Yes, I'm now officially middle-aged! (Obviously I'd bumped my head on something when I wrote that! )I'm married with 2 children, one now flown the coop, the other much younger. I love cats - domestic or wild, and try to live in peace and harmony whilst not giving into the chocolate demons. I sometimes drop into The Hitchhikers Hotel.

Twas the week before Christmas (Dec 18, 2011)And all through Loon's house it looked like a building site. Have been waiting since summer to get daughter's bedroom re-plastered and a roof leak repaired. Workmen finally arrived yesterday, stripped the offending wall, removed coving and part of the ceiling then went on the roof for another look. More damage than on first inspection Fingers crossed it will all be fixed by the end of the week weather willing. Fortunately it's the school hols and #2 can stay with her sister Still, it's rather a mess on top of the festive activities...Merry Christmas and a happy new hootoo Click here to discuss this (10 replies, Latest reply: Dec 25, 2011) Little things... (Oct 1, 2010) Now crane flies, what are they all about? Hundreds of them about at the moment, all kind of hopping/ flying around as I walk home in the evening. House martins have been on the wing the past few weeks, holly berries are already in abundance Even at my age I still love finding shiny conkers on the ground And I now have under cupboard lighting in the kitchen which is great in the shadowy late afternoons Autumnal musings of a loony one Click here to discuss this (33 replies, Latest reply: Dec 24, 2010) Hey, guess what? (Jan 17, 2009) I've been Hoootooing for 3 years! I arrived here during at lull at *other places* and gradually got hooked I was still in my 30s then and far more innocent Lots has happened in Real Life, good stuff and Things move on as they tend to do but this is still a place where I can always pop in to be or y without people minding. I've just polished off some jaffa cakes but if you can find anything resembling do help yourselves Click here to discuss this (13 replies, Latest reply: Aug 10, 2009) Seagull tales (Jun 5, 2008) Seeing as it's that time of year - not or - when many of us living in coastal towns get to live in close contact with our over-sized, noisy feathered friends I thought I do a little rambling piece. They arrive in spring to occupy the same roof top nesting sites each year. From then until around September we get to share our neighbourhood with them which has a variety consequences Last weekend we made our first trip of the year to the local RSPCA centre with 2 few days old which had fallen from the nest into next door's front garden. Their cat of course was over-curious at their prescence in his territory! Usually it's much later in the summer when the fledglings are practising flying and failing that they need rescuing. A few years ago one landed resulting in it's foot literally hanging by a thread At the moment there are lots cute fluffy grey chicks squeaking away on the roofs. Alas, within a few weeks they become sized juvenile delinquents. Many a morning I've been woken to the sound of pieces of rendering being rolled down the roof One bit was so large it got wedged in the gutter above the front door. Fearing it might kill someone if it fell we knocked it down with a broom handle from the bedroom window See, I can laugh in spite of the noise, the mess and damage they cause. It's true, they are scary scavenging s who seem to delight in white washing cars and washing But they are as much a part of seaside life as having permanently windswept hair and those annoying day trippers Summer just wouldn't be the same without them. My mum moved house several years ago and for some reason known only to herself took the bear with her She passed him to my sister who took him on another journey from Sussex to Suffolk. Thinking the bear was mine, my sister brought it down with her when visiting my dad this week and today he was finally returned to me! Well travelled, buttons replacing the eyes but still in good nick Click here to discuss this (9 replies, Latest reply: Sep 8, 2007) Click here to see more Journal Entries Most Recent Conversations
