Welcome to Liz World
Me, myself and I

I live on a small planet called earth.earth , in a little country called Great Britain and in a town called Ipswich, which is quite pleasant actually.

I am a member of the Random Quotes Guild.

The Random Quotes Guild badge

“Outside of a dog, a book is man’s best friend. Inside a dog it is too dark to read.” – Groucho Marx

““I think that God in creating man somewhat overestimated his ability.” – Oscar Wilde

I was born in Newbury, Berkshire in May 1967. I lived in Hampshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Lincolnshire before moving to Suffolk in 1988. My parents still live in Lincolnshire (well, somebody has to) and my younger brother (who’s name is Jon and who is a top bloke) lives in Birmingham.

I enjoy reading, going for long walks, listening to music, writing letters and e-mails, hanging around on BBC DNA sites and writing my weblog Ordinary World . I very occasionally do a bit of fiction writing, but having had a couple of (VERY) small things published, I’ve got bored with that particular hobby.

… and now for something completely different …

I’m also a member of ‘The h2g2 Monty Python Fan (Pythonist) Society'(although I'm not sure if they ever actually added me to their page)

‘The Life of Brian’ is my favourite film and provided my family with a charming nick-name for me – Incontinentia.erm

I’ve done lots of different jobs, including working in a shop and being a clerk typist, a secretary and a credit controller (but not all at the same time). Since the autumn of 2002 I have been employed as an Administrative Assistant by Suffolk College. It’s a very dull job, but aren’t they all?

Quick Catch-up (Jan 26, 2007)

Hello all!

I’m sorry that I haven’t been around here much lately. I was ill two weeks ago ill so that knocked out a whole weekend. Since then I have been trying to catch up on all the housework, ironing, shopping, computer stuff etc that got left while I was lying on the settee groaning for four days!yikes

Since then I have also been trying to organise a party ready for the rather big birthday that I have coming up in May. I have friends coming over to eat next weekend, and so must spend this weekend trying to tidy my dining room to the point where we can actually sit down at the table and have dinner! Plus, I have rashly agreed to do some typing for someone (he will pay me, so I can’t afford to say no – I’ve got a party to pay for!laugh ) and that needs to be done this weekend as well.

My brother has sent me a CD with 5 folders of photos on it and I would like to play about with that this weekend, print some photos and stick them in my album. Plus I would also like to catch up on some e-mailing and hootooing, but I can’t see these things happening given all the cleaning, shopping and typing that I need to do this weekenderm .

It’s a busy old life!

Will try and catch up properly with everyone soonsmiley .

Season's Greetings (Dec 16, 2006)

This time next week, my brother will be a married manbubbly and I shall be politely applauding the speeches (or possibly throwing tomatoes, depending on the quality of said speechestomato )

After the wedding, I shall be going home with my parents to spend three days stranded in the Lincolnshire Fensyikes , so the likelihood is that I wont be dropping by hootoo again until after the festive season.

That being the case, I would like to wish all my hootoo friends (well, the few that are still here at any rate) a very Merry Christmas.

Catch y'all again in about 10 days.

Love and a wet kipper
Liz

If it aint broke, please don't try to fix it!!!! (Dec 2, 2006)
Now, I am borderline geek geek , I like technology, and I’m a big fan of change, but does everything have to be new and improved? Today I have upgraded to the latest version of windows explorer. I hate it!cross I don’t want my favourites in a box at the side of the screen – I liked them when they were in a pull down menu. I suppose I will get used to it, but so far, I fail to see how the new version is any better than the old onesadface .

I still haven’t forgiven Microsoft for ‘improving’ their mail-merge in Word. I've been using the newer version regularly for over a year now, but I still think (as does everyone else that I have asked) that the old version was so much quicker and easier to use!grr Stop messing about with stuff!steam

Sorry, just needed to get that off my chest.

…and relaxzen

Boredom Blog (Oct 30, 2006)
yawn

I have joined the world of the self-obsessed and started myself a web-log. It's called "Ordinary World" and it can be found here: http://liz-ordinary.blogspot.com/

There isn't a tremendous amount on there as yet. I've got time to write something this evening, but can't think of anything to say. I'm an avid reader of a blog called 'Chickens Roost' but I notice the owner of that blog hasn't posted for about three weekserm . I hope to update my blog at least once a week, which might at least act as some sort of incentive for me to get myself a life!

Don't hold your breath though...

Blast from the past (Aug 7, 2006)

I am going to a barbecue on Saturday, so I e-mailed the host to ask if she would like me to bring anything. She replied and requested a dessert. There are plenty of yummy things to buy in the dessert cabinet in the supermarket, but I do like to cook, so I’d like to take something homemade (always impresses peoplebiggrin ). I rarely have occasion to make desserts, so my repertoire for puds is nowhere near as good as that for main courses. I spent some time looking through recipe books tonight, but all my tried and tested recipes would be difficult to transport. So, I got out a box file full of assorted recipes (many clipped from magazines) and eventually I found it, glued inside an old school book – my Grandma’s cheesecake recipe!ok I think this was typed up by my Aunt, or possibly my Mum. My Mum used to make this when I still lived at home, and often my brothers and I would help, so I know it is reasonably straightforward. Mind you, the last time I made it I was probably about 20 years ago, so I am a little out of practice!laugh

Inside the same old school recipe book, I also found the recipe for my Mum’s homemade steak pie. That’s also something I haven’t made in a while, mainly because I don’t have anyone to eat it. Anyway, the brilliant thing about finding the steak pie recipe is that it is contained within the body of a letter my Mum wrote to me about 18 years ago, not too long after I left home (I love finding old letters!) It was great to sit and read through that letter again all these years later.smiley
