Journal for Researcher33922 Stumbling in (life so far)
(Oct 24, 2006)
Hi. Saw the lights on and thought I'd pop in. That's not entirely true. I haven't visited h2g2 for quite some time and suddenly, for no apparent reason, I find myself back here. I really have no idea what made me think of revisiting (please don't interpret that as I don't like this place - love it - lots of good memories and friends come from here). Here I am though. To explain my absense: It seemed okay to juggle everything in the past when it was just myself, the bride, the boy (now 5 1/2) and the cat, but when our brood increased by one (a lovely lad - at the time of writing this he's 20 months old) a little spring cleaning/reorganising of our lives was needed. Visiting h2g2 regularly was one of them. Unfortunately 'regularly' eventually turned into 'at all' and I disappeared - from here anyway. I'm back to see how old friends are going (if they're still here) and to sight-see a bit. Time is still limited, so no cartoons I'm afraid. Life is good. Hope you're all doing well. My lovely wife is fine - 5 weeks and she's back to work and I work from home!!! Shall be interesting to see how that works out. I'm looking forward to it. The bride is certainly chomping at the bit - desperate to get back out and about! The boy is now 5 months old - can you believe it!?! He's onto solids a bit now - has a bottle most of the time and eats all manner of things - rice cereal, pumpkin, apple and stuff - doesn't like peas at all. And speaking of solids, that's the best way to describe him - solid in a rugby league front row forward sort of way, rather than solid in a little Buddha way. Don't mention football though - his mother says he will never play it (though I did put a good argument in for soccer - I think). As for milestones - his first tooth appeared yesterday!!! I think the bride's going to stop feeding him soon - funny that. As for me I'm still working at a place called Liquid Animation, though at the moment production has stopped on the kid's health site I'm working on. At the moment we're animating 4 episodes of a new TV series for Disney called 'The Proud Family'. Best way to describe it is a combination of 'The Cosby Show' and 'The Simpsons' (though kid friendly enough to be on Disney of course). I'm part of the Layout/Background Design department, which means I have a pencil in my hand all day rather than have a computer in front of me, which is a very nice change indeed. I can't put up any links but dot com at the end of liquid animation or youthealth and you'll get there all right LOL For info on The Proud Family go to the official Disney site. But, for what it's worth, a wake should be organised. I looked around but couldn't find any. So I guess I could have a go. This forum can be a place where the odd can be drunk and amusing tales can be told, all in the name of one of the best.Cheers DNA Bob help us all! Or, to put it slightly differently I have no quarrel with them. What I have issue with is the fact that they are EVERYWHERE. At the bottom of every page. At the top of every User Page. At the side of every statement every person makes. A tad overkill don't you think? The last time I had rules floating so close to me so often was when I attended a Catholic High School. As a result, all I wanted to do then was to see if there was any way the rules could be broken. This is not a normal state of mind for me you must understand. But in the last couple of days I have felt exactly the same way that I did half a lifetime ago. I feel like a naughty school boy again. Have the rules up sure, but accept that h2g2 is one of the friendliest and most civil discussion groups around. Treat people like school kids and that's how they'll act. *jumps off soap box* Click here to discuss this (7 replies, Latest reply: Mar 21, 2001) Baby Stuff (Mar 16, 2001) If you were not previously aware, I and my lovely wife are expecting a child any minute now. The following information is provided to keep people... erm... informed. The 'official' due for the kid was the 10th of March, but it seems that it's being tardy. Lots of boredom and frustration and discomfort is happening, mainly due to: a) said tardiness; and b) the fact that we have been prepared (home wise) for ages hoping that it was going to be early so now there's nothing to do but sit and wait. Our Doc's said that, if it's not out by Tuesday the 20th she'll take matters into her own hands and get the kid out herself on the 21st. My wife's birthday is the 20th. She'll be 30. If nothing happens until then she''l be admitted to hospital the night of her 30th. Certainly an event to remember eh? My theory was that ex Prime Minister (lost-at-sea) Harold Holt would emerge from the ocean with flame in hand and light the cauldron and take his old job back immediately making John Howard unemployed. Imagine my disappointment when it was Cathy Freeman. This last statement is clearly not true considering the admiration I have for this woman, who has dealt with a lot of adversary in a very positive way I thought the opening ceremony was great. It was probably one of the most multicultural Olympic openers I've seen. Choice image was of an Asian gentleman in an American style marching band playing a British tune at an Australian based Olympic ceremony. Without getting too much into the national pride thing, that's what I think this country's all about. The fact that it was the centennial of female athletes almost made the ending write itself. It was a lot of fun but exhausting. 5 days of animated short films (between 30 seconds and 30 minutes) can certainly take its toll on your eyes, and I walked out of the whole thing quite drained but hey... I survived. I also got to meet the legendary Ray Harryhausen! For those of you who are saying 'who?', Ray was the bloke who made the 3D animation (which he called 'Dynamation') for all those Saturday matinee films like Jason and the Argonauts, The Seventh Voyage OF Sinbad, One Million Years BC and Mighty Joe Young (the original). Ray's a nice fella indeed. I got to chat with him for quite a while when a small group of us greeted him to Brisbane. We all had a nice low key bar-b-que in picturesque surroundings and talked about animation and life in general. Nice to meet the man who kept my Sunday afternoons entertaining. (Oct 18, 1999) In a few weeks, my fair nation of Australia will be having a referendum in which the nation decides whether or not to become a Republic. A lot of people are saying their whys or why nots and I thought it fitting to bring this debate to the hallowed halls of h2g2. What does everyone think about our little island. Should we give Her Mag the big heave ho or not? Australia vs New Zealand. Australia was down by 6 points in the final quarter. Australia scores the winning goal IN THE FINAL SECOND!!! Australia secures the World Cup for another 4 years! Full credit to NZ though. They were flyinging, intercepting the Aussies from everywhere. A very tough game for both sides. But... winning by one still means winning. I wish there was more of the contest telecast. I was amazed that commercial television even showed THIS match! Sorry, but men's sport gets far too much attention. This game was BRILLIANT! (Sep 3, 1999) I'm starting up a virtual band on h2g2. Our name is 'Kkktssh!' and we've named it after the sound a bourbon/scotch/rum bottle makes when you open it. (We were going to call it 'FfooOMP!' -a port bottle- but that just sounded ridiculous) So far in the band is myself on saxophone, key boards, piano accordian and kazoo and the other members are... well... Who wants to join the band? Click here to discuss this (64 replies, Latest reply: Oct 1, 1999) Addictive Toons (Sep 1, 1999) I've recently become addicted to a cartoon recently called 'Daria'. Has anyone else out there discovered this little gem? I have to admit I'm a cartoon addict, especially of those produced during the Hanna Barbera era of the 70's. But there's a lot of good stuff coming out now. Anyone else out there who shares an addiction for cartoons? Step right up! Any suggestions out there in the hitch hiker's universe? Anything you think is screaming for the whacky touch? All insane (and even some sane) ideas are most welcome. I must point out the fact that this is done in a completely amature way. I have no money, nor do I know anyone with any. But vision - hey, I got loads of dat!
