Anyway, was woken up by parents who wanted to know if I knew where the zap strap was because the ram needed for my computer had turned up (ordered it yesterday so wasn't expecting it today, only needed it because I'd fried the previous stuff), so after my dad had installed it, I plugged in the new harddrive that would be used for windozes so that the existing one could be used for linux (told you it would be y). I then intalled linux and windozes successfully. The next challenge was the internet connection in linux as the new computer would need to get its connection from the existing linux machine (which had the modem) over the network. So after some tinkering I got it to work and well its fantastic. So after this success I went back to trying to install a gimp plugin which had really, really annoyed me yesterday (to the point where I was talking to myself in a deranged voice like a madman). After a few failed attempts I tried a different approach, I went to look at the gimp packages that weren't installed and saw one that may solve my problem, so I installed it and tried installing the plugin again. It worked. So all in all, today was a good day.

The problems with using a 486 to look at h2g2 (Apr 18, 2001)
I am writting this using a 486 running internet explorer 3 as the browser, and it isn't too bad except to improve the speed of the machine i had to disable pictures as this slowed the computer up alot and meant pages took forever to load but all things considered it isn't too bad. Don't Panic, I have 3 computers at my disposal and i decided to use this one as the others were in use, but what amazes me is that h2g2 works on internet explorer 3. Its just amazing.
