It has to be remembered that the Oatcake forms the basis of Potteries Rhyming slang, which goes something like this: Oakcakes and Pairs - Stairs Oatcakes and Meat - Feet Oatcakes and Peas - Cheese Oatcakes and Mental Fan - Gentleman and so on... In some areas of cheshire, they are also known as Oatpats because they look a bit like that kind of thing.
