The Estonian Embassy in Washington D.C. caught fire Monday around 8 p.m. EDT. Firefighters put out the blaze, with at least one firefighter sustaining a minor injury.

Police blocked traffic on Massachusetts Avenue, a street that is home to many of the large embassies in Washington, while as many as 80 firefighters battled the blaze. Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames within about two hours. The roads reopened Tuesday morning. One hook and ladder truck remains on scene in case anything flares up.

D.C. Fire and Rescue spokesman Alan Etter says wires in a wall in a basement utility room short circuited and started the fire.

Etter says the building's interior suffered extensive smoke, water and fire damage. The damage to the building is estimated at $2.5 million.

No one was in the embassy when the fire started.
