Many theories were around as to how the olympic cauldron was to be lit. My theory was that ex Prime Minister (lost-at-sea) Harold Holt would emerge from the ocean with flame in hand and light the cauldron and take his old job back immediately making John Howard unemployed. Imagine my disappointment when it was Cathy Freeman.  This last statement is clearly not true considering the admiration I have for this woman, who has dealt with a lot of adversary in a very positive way  I thought the opening ceremony was great. It was probably one of the most multicultural Olympic openers I've seen. Choice image was of an Asian gentleman in an American style marching band playing a British tune at an Australian based Olympic ceremony. Without getting too much into the national pride thing, that's what I think this country's all about. The fact that it was the centennial of female athletes almost made the ending write itself. Hurrahs all 'round.
Indeed now on to the harbour for the triathalon.
