Wolvesey Castle is the remains of a fortified palace, home of the Bishops of Winchester for over a thousand years. The Bishop of Winchester still lives on the site of the former medieval West Wing and Chapel, in an area that is not open to the public, yet most of the medieval palace's remains are now in the care of English Heritage.
