Words, Words, Words
"There is no such thing as a moral or an immoral book. Books are well written, or badly written. That is all." -- Oscar Wilde
Wild Geese
You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clear blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting--
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.
~Mary Oliver
My friend Alice, a PHENOMENAL poet I met at college, recited this to our class in early December, 2004. It brought tears to my eyes, though I didn't cry: she had prefaced the poem with "No crying at school." She explained that someone she had known had passed away, and his family wanted a poem to read at the service... she shared with them this one.
As for Mary Oliver, she is the author of "The Poetry Handbook", which I am now reading. There is much more to learn about her, a living poet... BLESS.

Yes. I'm responsible for it. I'm the Proud Musemother of the H2G2 Musehome. All muses can be found at the Musehome Roster
Sadly, I don't bother to do much about the Musehome nowadays. :-(
"Shakespeare had a sister; but do not look for her in Sir Sidney Lee's life of the poet. She died young-- alas, she never wrote a word. She lies buried where the omnibuses now stop, opposite the Elephant and Castle. Now my belief is that this poet who never wrote a word and was buried at the crossroads still lives. She lives in you and in me, and in many other women who are not here... But she lives; for great poets do not die; they are continuing presences; they need only the opportunity to walk among us in the flesh. This opportunity, as I think, it is now coming within your power to give her. For my belief is... if we have the habit of freedom and
THE COURAGE TO WRITE EXACTLY WHAT WE THINK
; if we escape a little from the common sitting-room and see human beings not always in the relation to each other but in relation to reality; and the sky, too, and the trees or whatever it may be in themselves... then the opportunity will come and the dead poet who was Shakespeare's sister will put on the body which she has so often laid down... I maintain that she would come if we worked for her, and that so to work, even in povery and obscurity, is worth while." --Virginia Woolf, "A Room of One's Own". If only we were so brave for Shakespeare's sister...
You can do plenty of stupid but fun things on h2g2...
I heard in 2003 that I had the record for most postings in the history of h2g2. This could only happen when you live at home and your parents do your laundry and a lot of the cooking... Ummm... thanks, Mom and Dad...
"The desires of the heart are as crooked as corkscrews Not to be born is the best for man The second best is a formal order The dance's pattern, dance while you can. Dance, dance, for the figure is easy The tune is catching and will not stop Dance till the stars come down with the rafters Dance, dance, dance till you drop."
--W. H. Auden, September 1936 Ah... a man who appreciates the art of dance... A poem perfect for the Muse of Song and Dance...
Ok, gangstas, lovers, haters, thugs, ballas, hippies, poets, pirates, pagans and lurkers, I'm putting this link on my page: Hootoo's Alternative Writing Workshop because I think I'll be spending a fair amount of time there soon. YAY!!!
May happiness
pursue you,
catch you
often, and,
should it
lose you,
be waiting
ahead, making
a clearing
for you
~A.R. Ammons
Great what you can find online when you're in pursuit of contemporary poetry, isn't it!??

On Tarot, Being a Writer, and Turning Thirty
(Feb 16, 2010)
Hello again.
I hope whoever reads this is maintaining balance in their lives ... for me, balance has come from remembering that I am a writer, a creative person and a poet, and from utilizing my curiosity in stimulating ways.
For me, balance means risk. It means allowing myself to engage in my own interests and find my colleagues.
A few years ago now, I applied for a masters degree in creative writing. The road since has been generative and rewarding. Here's some of my latest news and I hope to hear yours, too:
Tabitha Dial, a graduate of Creative Writing at Colorado State University in 2009, has written a proposal selected by organizers of "The End?" conference at Indiana University this March. Her presentation incorporates poems written for her thesis and will focus on how Tarot visualization, the writing of poetry and the practice of meditation have become profound means of communicating with and overcoming difficulty in her life. One year ago, she began to suffer chronic eye pain from a condition doctors continue to try to diagnose. Tarot cards inspired the poetry written for her MFA, and Tarot remains a tool that helps her cope with current life struggles.
... I am working on things like establishing a web site to promote this line of thinking. I am working with a local metaphysical shop interested in evolving this presentation into a Tarot poetry workshop, which is a dream come true. And an essay I wrote on my experience writing poetry from Tarot is under consideration for inclusion in a two-volume anthology on Tarot and culture.
And I turn thirty. And I am happy with the way I am spending my time.
Retweeting a stragety intended to aid protestors in Iran
(Jun 21, 2009)
From a fellow called "Mach" on http://nerdfighters.ning.com
"Now a few people are tweeting news out of Iran. I'm not going to tell you the names of their twitter accounts as that may* only hurt them. Now one of them has asked their followers to change their location to Iran and set their time to GMT+3:40. And also to RT(retweet) all of their tweets. This is to help throw of the censors trying to track them.
I've started doing this on my account: https://twitter.com/Mach712 And would like to suggest that you do the same. With the large number of Nerdfighters we could greatly increase the number of RTs.
*Just trying to stay on the safe side "

World of Warcraft ROCKS my world
(Feb 16, 2008)
I began playing World of Warcraft in December for school. I was in a fabulous English education class, where we studied graphic novels (comic books), film and video/computer games and Web 2.0 as learning tools for students. My final was a presentation about my experience with the online role-playing game.
I really love playing and as I have made friends, and stuck to a lot of the slang I picked up during my hootoo/nearly moving to London days, I have thought back to this site and the friendships I have made here.
As always, I hope everyone is doing well.
I also wanted to put out there that I play for the horde on the Muradin server. So if you happen to play on the same server for the horde, let's please add each other as friends. If you haven't begun to play but want to, and need someone to guide you, I would be pleased to do my best.
Just let me know!
.... and school and everything else in life is going beautifully. My first semester wasn't idyllic (who's is?) and this one has shown me I have more friends than I had realized before. I'm also getting pretty busy with poetry -- participating in readings and helping a local organization judge a poetry contest.
Great Zeus, things are groovy. YAY!!!
(Oh and I will be working on a project for a class this semester that ties into World of Warcraft and women/girls who play it. If you are drawn to being interviewed or know a good lead -- article or individual -- I am grateful.)
Harry Potter never fluffed my cloak, if you know what I mean ...
(Jul 23, 2007)
I've never really cared for Harry, but I am a huge fan of the books.
I've read up to chapter 32 of the book and I have been loving every page. Rowling really evolves her characters and even the whole world Harry knows and ... it's wonderful and I can't wait to finish it.
She introduces new faces that have been there all along, or ... certainly are meant to ...
I am of course hoping for a lot of Harry Potter hits. Please Digg if you have a Digg account -- search for "Harry Potter never fluffed my cloak" and you will find it.
Many thanks and I look forward to seeing what all of you think of Harry Potter, the character, this last book, the many relationships Rowling has developed ... thanks again. Click here to discuss this

Harry Potter final book discussion
(Jul 22, 2007)
I want to buzz away about the latest Harry Potter book ...
I am sure there's a thread on Ask the Community ... but I think I also want a thread full of folks I know and folks who may simply come across this thread.
What better place than hootoo (seems every time I come here, it reinforces my bits of Brit vernacular, and that's what the book's doing, too ... perfect)?
Reading status as of this post: I have made it to page 223, the beginning of Chapter Twelve. I have the book released to the U.S., being that I live in Denver and all ...
