MORGAINE or Morgan Le Fay was the half-sister of the legendary King Arthur. I say legendary because there is little historical information on which to base his existance. The first reference to him in text is in a sixth century poem by Aneirin called Y Gododdin. Geoffrey of Monmouth, writing in the 12th century, is believed to have drawn on the heavy oral tradition of Arthur's existance when writing his History of the Kings of Britain. There was much controversy about his work, and Geoffrey was referred to as a fabulator and writer of lies. However, the legend of King Arthur grew and grew and it was Sir Thomas Malory's Le Morte D'Arthur in 1469 which really laid out many of the tales which have subsequently been alloted to this Celtic British figure. Morgaine/Morgan Le Fay - the spelling is interchangeable - was the daughter of the Duke of Cornwall and the Lady Igraine. Arthur's father, Uther Pendragon, seduced Igraine by the use of Merlin's magic and begat Arthur. Morgaine was sent to a convent, originally to become a nun. Legend, however, has her learning magic and becoming an enemy of Arthur. she is believed to have seduced Arthur and given birth to Mordred - who later mortally wounds his uncle/father, while at the same time, receiving a fatal injury from Arthur's famous sword, Excalibur. But, who is to say what is myth and what is fact. In simple terms, the legend of King Arthur and Morgan Le Fay has enthralled readers for more than 500 years.

Oh Bugger (Aug 6, 1999)
Having read a few of the other guide researchers pages I realise mine is completely crap.
Hopefully it's gonna improve as I think of some witty and amusing things to say on it.

Morgaine's Musings (Aug 6, 1999)
WELL, the first entry in my Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy journal.
What should I write? How about a little bit about me? Since I was a child I have been fascinated by the legend of King Arthur and his half-sister Morgan Le Fay, also known as Morgaine.
I remember my grandpop giving me a copy of T H White's The Once and Future King - on which Walt Disney based much of his Sword in the Stone cartoon - and being enthralled by the tales of the young Arthur.
As I grew older, I devoured every piece of information I could find on Arthur and the tales of the Round Table, slowly building up a collection of books which now take up a large amount of space on my shelves at home.
Anyway, to cut to the chase, most of my webpage entries will be on the subject and hopefully anyone who reads them will find just a little bit of interest to capture their attention.
