Woo hoo!
It's been a while, but I'm back on here (thanks to the tireless H2G2 support staff who helped me convert my account)...

I can't believe it's been 8 weeks...
(Jul 2, 1999)
Well, it's been a while, but I'm back... About time too, I hear you say. Personally, I'm stunned that I've been away this long - but thinking about it I've been chained to the monitor 36 hours a day fixing an overrunning project. Or at least that's what it felt like.
But I'm refreshed, relaxed, the project is now the client's problem, and I can get on with all the other stuff that's much more fun. Like this.

I think it's Wednesday...
(May 5, 1999)
Isn't it amazing what a long weekend will do for you? I stayed in over the bank holiday weekend - read a book, slept, cooked and generally did ANYTHING that wasn't to do with work. For the first time in god-knows-how-long, I seriously thought about going in to work on the weekend and decided "No. Sod it, I'm going to have another kip!".
Just as well really 'cos the grief I've had over the last two days with clients (trying to get the web site I wrote for them live and failing - almost exclusively due to installation faults and nothing to do with me!). I was screaming and swearing and raising the roof when I got home. Pity my poor Fiancee when she rang me last night!
Still, that's the thing about Fiancees - they ARE good at providing sympathy and being someone you can moan to. Even if they do plan how they'll spend your money 18 months before you're going to be married!
It's the Bristol Perl Mongers (http://bristol.pm.org) first meeting tonight at the Reckless Engineer in Bristol. Time for a beer (or 8) and some chat - so I'm off - cya.

Fridays
(Apr 30, 1999)
Well, it's here again... Friday!
The one day of the week that is universally looked forward to for no other reason than it's the last working day. This is a good thing.
However, clients who decide that making their natty, new, complex, database-driven, interactive, polished and not least complex web site live so that the paying public can view it on the Tuesday following (this weekend is a Bank Holiday here in sunny (no, it is sunny, honestly!) England) is bound to put a minor crimp on anybody's Friday.
Ah well, who cares... Anyone want to go down the pub?
