Hi. My name is Kaz. This has been my very own corner of h2g2 for a very long time now. I forget exactly, but I think I joined this site in about 2002 so I have been here quite a while! I thought it was about time I gave my space a proper overhaul, so here it is!
I have been a fan of the Hitchhikers Guide books since I was at school. I read them all and then got into the Dirk Gently books too. I always thought Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency would make a good film or even animation. The BBC recently adapted it for radio with Harry Enfield as Dirk, and that was really good.
I often wonder what Douglas would have made of h2g2 if he was still here, as it has changed a lot, but in a good way. There is now a group of video enthusiasts on here, The h2g2 Aviators. They are putting video blogs together for us. I think that’s a great idea. I hope Douglas would have been proud of us for pushing the boundaries of h2g2.
As well as the Hitchhikers Guide I am also a big fan of Doctor Who and Torchwood. I also watched Life On Mars avidly when it was on. I still don’t know what to make of the spinoff, Ashes To Ashes.
Aside from sci fi, I am a total music lunatic. If I listed all the bands I like here I’d here all night, but let’s say anything from Keane
to Queen via Crowded House
, Pink Floyd and David Gilmour
to Martin Simpson and James Taylor. I like to play the guitar (and a bit of piano sometimes) and I am a member of h2g2’s Musicians Guild. They are great guys and have given me a lot of musical advice. Pop over there sometime if you like.
Yeah, so music is really my main “thing” in life. I like to review gigs too. At the moment I am trying to find a job in journalism, but no luck yet.
Here are some random links to places on h2g2 you might like to visit:
The Campaign to rename Thursday 'Thing'. The Myth of 42 Campaign For A *chocmuffin* Smiley! This campaign was something me and Not Panicking Yet thought up. Something for the chocolate fans.
Cheers

(Oct 5, 2009)
Hello everyone.
Just dropping in to apologise for my lack of appearance on hootoo lately. I haven't deserted hootoo completely. I have just had a very busy few months and simply haven't had time to get back on here. Sadly, I'm likely to be popping in and out of hootoo even more sporadically as the months go on.
Hope everyone is well. I will drop by when I can.
Speak soon

Doctor Who-sort of....
(Apr 12, 2009)
Doctor Who last night was really good. Although is anyone else confused about how the specials fit in with the new Doc and everything...I thought DT had this whole series to go before Matt Smith takes over in 2010. or am I just having a daft moment...?
Before Doctor Who, I tuned into Jonathan Ross' show in the morning on R2. I don't usually listen to Jon's show, and tuned in cause David and Catherine were guesting. It was very funny, and the interview with Paul Merton was good.

Christmas greetings...
(Dec 24, 2008)
Hello,
Just a quick note to send Christmas greetings to all on hootoo.
I've been away from hootoo a fair bit lately. what with work, and other bits and pieces in the run up to Christmas, it's all been a bit crazy, but hopefully will have time to catch up with people over the holiday.
Wishing you a relaxing Christmas whatever you're up to..
Kaz.

Song lyrics and their meanings
(Oct 31, 2008)
Why is it that songs seem to have so many different meanings and can be misinterpreted? Recently there’s one song that I've been thinking about that seems to be able to be read in a variety of different ways, and I wanted people’s opinion on here as to what they thought it was about. The song is No One Is To Blame by Howard Jones. The lyrics start like this:
“You can look at the menu but you just can't eat You can feel the cushions but you can't have a seat.”
full lyrics to be found in the multimedia section of www.howardjones.co.uk
Now, on a youtube site, people were saying, oh it’s obviously about being unfaithful. See, I never looked at it like that. I took it to be like an observation of two people who desperately wanted to be together, but neither had the courage to commit, for whatever reason. I might be naïve and missing the point, but that was what I thought the song was about. What do you think? Kaz. Click here to discuss this

Lost In Austen
(Sep 25, 2008)
Did anyone else see the last episode of Lost In Austen last night?
I don't understand why so many critics have been quite so vitriolic about it. I thought it was great fun. It was lighthearted and funny and has obviously been put together by people with a great love for the book. I disagree with those who said it ridicules the book. I think it was treated with respect-after all, the whole plotline was basically to put the plotline right: what greater respect is there?
I think it just put on film what fans have been dreaming of. What I mean is, I don't believe there isn't a reader out there who hasn't got "lost" in their favourite book, whether it is Pride and Prejudice, or whatever and fancied being able to drop by into that world and see what it is like. I guess us girls would all like to meet Mr. D too, and I presume the chaps would like to meet Lizzy?
I thought Elliot Cowan played Darcy very well (He was so intense he looked like he was going to explode at times-good God his scowl was even worse than Colin Firth's!) and Jemima Rooper and Gemma Arterton were equally good. I especially liked the bit when Lizzy said to Darcy: "but we've been married 200 years!"
... oh, and when Darcy said: "I only smile in private, when no-one's looking..." awwww...
Not quite sure I worked out exactly who stayed and who left in the end, but it didn't matter-I couldn't fathom the end of Life On Mars either, but I loved that just the same.
Kaz.
