The industry calls me again to class and this time it spits venom of VB development. ForTran, COBOL, and now MCSD. Will the indignity ever end? I've put my career on hold to update my credentials again. A few months and I'll be back in the rat race, slightly richer, but not more enlightened. If I ever have to relearn Pascal for the job, I'm taking an extended vacation instead. On the good hand, I now know what's wrong with my computer. The initials of the problem start with "Micro" and end with "Soft". Click here to discuss this

Credit Cards And Holidays
(Dec 18, 2001)
I've noticed that the minimum payment on my credit card (note the singular) doesn't go up in relation to what I spend. This concerns me in that I don't think the minimum payment is in any way connected to the monthly interest. Not hard to see where that goes.
On the other hand, the fam and friends should be all good with all that is wrapped. I could say more, but I'd have to cut off my own tongue for being a snitch.
On the home front, I just set up a six speaker stereo system so that game console sounds even better. And I can watch 'TRON' in surround sound glory. Nothing says aural bliss like directional sound effects. Next year maybe I'll win the lottery and get a 48 inch wall mounted plasma display.

Another Turkey Bloat
(Nov 23, 2001)
Okay, it pegs me as a Dirty American, but I have to put in a word of the day: Bloated. I let out my pants and all, but the puffy gut is still there. By tomorrow I'll have a headache from eating too much today. Then the mad rush for Christmas gifts begins. Being dragged to the worst stores by people who don't have any sense of color management. Pointed questions about what kinds of things I like. The awkward moments in a back room with paper and tape.
On the good side I have a few days off of work to get work done around my place. Re-load drivers. Work on the next certification. Play, er, run some test apps for my system. Make sure my roomie hasn't annoyed the broadband provider lately.

New to this
(Oct 20, 2001)
So my friend forced me to become a researcher because she wants this thing to work and I can see her point of view and I do want this thing to do well. In fact, I can see it doing better than Brittanica if it keeps working right. I'm reading Adams' posts in the other browser windows and remembering why I liked his work. Beats playing Diablo for hours on end, anyways. Don't know much about politics. I keep my religion to myself. I'm not good enough at math or inept enough at common sense to be an engineer. I'm a programmer. So that's how I look at the world and that's what I can babble about. Hardware and software and organizing them to get the job done. Words and actions and words that are actions and not at the same time. I'm old school, which means I used to know assembly on 8 bit machines. Find me a college grad these days that knows assembly on any processor and I'll show you someone who didn't graduate from the university I hang around these days. When did all the microcontrollers go to using BASIC? Anyways, I digress. I might have something usefull to say in all this rambling I do, so here I am. Click here to discuss this
