Sophomores of the Planet Zaaark : Class #1004/307/1 (Recreational Hunting)
Good morning, students. I take it that everyone who is going to condense from the atmosphere has already done so? Good. Then please engage your sensory ganglia. You at the back. Yes, you. Though I am painfully familiar with the Corporal Punishment Policy of this University, you should realise that I am not averse to biting off the odd tentacle from those who are not paying attention. Thank you. Welcome to the second year of the Psychodynamics Honours course, and in particular welcome to the Ethnoethics class. We will be seeing each other every milliCycle for the next semester, promptly at 405. Those of you who have bothered to read the syllabus will know that this element of the course is based on the study of a single alien planet. You will progressively research the annals to find out about the primitive civilisation of this planet, and about how our ancestors treated it. At the end of the semester, you will submit your essay about an ethical issue of your choosing. Those of you who did as you were told during the vacation will already have selected a specimen for abduction. A depressingly small number of you have registered that selection, so the rest of you are about to find out that I’ve picked one for you. I’m afraid you may have missed your chance to abduct an interesting individual. We have to be scrupulously careful, naturally, to limit our experiments to specimens that the subject society won’t really miss. Everyone has at least read the Experimental Protocols, I take it? Good. So I can choose any one of you at random, and hear a considered and coherent test plan? Let’s see, shall we? A student calling themselves Nooork. You, is it? Now, don’t be shy, dear. I’d like you to tell us all, in your own thoughts, exactly what you intend to do with the Researcher known as Unknown Visitor…
...Actually this page suddenly doesn't look too bad in Alabaster

It's getting like that endangered species thing round here, right? When the population shrinks to the point that the gene pool isn't varied enough to escape extinction.
There are at least two huge new stories right now (Japan and Libya) and almost no intelligent discussion of either. And if anyone tries starting a discussion, in come the usual suspects, bleating out the same old tired claptrap, and they go way off topic and kill the thing.
Far be it from me to suggest that today's hootooers are diminished to the point of inbreeding...oh, all right. Possibly not that far now you come to mention it.
Do you reckon we could persuade the BBC to keep a few dozen of them? Click here to discuss this

Entry Awaiting Moderation
(Feb 20, 2011)
My latest offering, like a depressing proportion of its recent predecessors, is in Limbo As Above.
It's probably the consequence of a single use of the sanguine adjective, mild though that expletive is.
It might just have been a very indirect reference to Mickey's advocacy of Certain Things We Should Do With Bankers, but I don't think they're that subtle, are they? I mean, it's not as if they read the stuff.
I wouldn't mind, but it isn't even very good. I only threw it in to show a bit of solidarity with the poor old mouldering pile of decay, over which people are now expending more energy in planning the appearance of an as-yet non-existent site than on actually writing anything.
My breath I cannot get. My Landlord I do not respect. My peers I'm sometimes none too sure about either. Click here to discuss this

Convos I’d be Sad to Lose...
(Jan 23, 2011)
Since the new H2G2 may be destined to limit our backward Convo access to a week last Thursday, I’ve decide to keep a collection of links to well-loved but ancient Convos in my Journal.
Any Lurkers (as if) might be surprised to see that I seem to be mainly concerned with preserving the glory of my own inimitable contributions. Hell, yeah! The rest of you can look after your own literary legacies. My mission is to preserve the sheer piquant majesty of the Seal for the wonderment and rapture of future generations. And yeah, OK, there are a few other people who I'll grudgingly admit have produced some pretty sharp repartee too...

Walbridge
(Jan 9, 2011)
Both Bradley and Nigel fell off the roof, and Ronnie and Helen both got their babies by unnatural methods, right?
So it stands to reason that Helen's actress will get so distressed about the storyline that she leaves the series.
We can but hope. Click here to discuss this
