That should hold you till we get a rope.

How to Find the Post
(Aug 6, 2012)
Hey, fans of !
Having trouble locating your favourite ezine? There are several ways to do this:
This week's issue of is at A87760399. Click on the A-number.
If you're looking at the old Brunel/Alabaster/Goo Front Page, which has now been put to a well-deserved rest, just click on the Post logo there. The link will always take you to the latest issue.
If you're using the new, blue Pliny FP, click on the words 'The Post'. This is will also take you to the latest issue of .
If you are using any skin other than Pliny, replace your PS's usernumber with the words 'ThePost', and hit 'Enter'. You're there.
All of this will work, even if (as right now, for technical reasons beyond our control) the rest of the Post advertising on the Pliny Front Page is for last week.
We thank you for your continued patronage - business as usual during alterations. We will continue to bring you the latest in news, features, and entertainment, whatever the colour of your wallpaper.

Have you been getting failure notices from the Post?
(Jan 4, 2012)
Ahem. Bel says I shouldn't be so sensitive. It isn't that people don't read my editorials (she says). It's that people are having Senior Moments (she says).
I will pretend I believe this.
Just so you update your contacts list: The current email for is postteamhg - at- gmail - dot - com.
Why did we have to change it? Google, bless their little cotton socks. We were informed that the Post was 'not old enough to have a gmail address'. We were required to provide Proof of Age. Somehow, Shazz and Bel couldn't get through to them.
We took the easy way out, and got us a brand-new gmail account (and pretended we were grownups).
So...
If you want to send us Stuff (of course you do, you KNOW you do), send it to postteamhg - at- gmail - dot - com.
Or click on 'Email the Post Team' on the Post FP.
Now, did I forget anything? Where are my glasses? On my face, you say? Well... ...
Thx, guys,
DG

(Jun 1, 2011)
Currently my PC doesn't work. I hope my son will be able to fix it soon, but I can't promise anything, not even that we'll have a Post on Monday. Keep your fingers crossed.

Weird characters
(Mar 28, 2011)
While uploading the articles last night, my browser transformed 'word' characters which hadn't been replaced to very strange characters. I hope I caught them all and replaced them with the characters they were meant to have. If you see I missed some, please let me know here.

Entry of the Month Badge
(Jan 22, 2011)
So, I've just had a look at the latest Entry of the Month Article and the Archive. I managed to alter the guide ml in a way that it nearly looks in barlesque as it looks in the current skin. So far, so good. Then I got curious and had a look how edited entries look in barlesque, so I randomly clicked on one of the winners - and what, do you think I found?
Yes, you guessed it: the Entry of the Month Badge isn't there any more.
Try it yourselves:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/approved_entry/
Copy and paste the links in two tabs, then add a winner of your choice.
EotM archive is at:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A28547201
I am very disappointed. If we don't get the badge applied in the new skin, I guess there is not much of a point in continuing the competition.

The Post in Beta
(Nov 12, 2010)
I'm sure most (if not all) of you will have seen the Beta Version of the new h2g2.
Although I think the new h2g2 Front Page looks great, I can't say this goes for the Post FP as well.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/beta/entry/thepost
I guess we'll have to work on a new layout, but naturally, we'll have to wait until the new h2g2 version goes live.
Then again, I'm not sure if it's worth going on in the first place.
The plan is, to have a link to the Post on the FP ONCE per week.
If you see that Ask H2G2 has a very dominant position, and that, by the looks of it, the Useless Facts Thread may have a permanent link (and is very prominent, too), both of which are conversation threads where nobody puts in a minute of work, whereas a lot of people put in hours each week to produce the Post, this is extremely frustrating.
I am very pleased, that so far various people have required to have a permanent link to the Post on the new Front Page. If you'd like to support the cause, you can do so here:

Thank you.

I really wonder how *anything* can possibly be Off topic in a newspaper/magazine.
I asked the moderators to *read* the article.
Hope it will be put up again soon (it's Mol's article about the technical side of elections).

(Oct 19, 2009)
After writing the last editorial, I thought it might be a good idea if we started a Post Team Twitter account. You can follow us here:
http://www.twitter.com/h2g2_post_team
Depending on the number of followers and responses we get, I plan to use it to keep people updated on new issues and articles of interest and a couple of other things. So if you're a Tweeter, please follow us!

'New' Post Team member
(Oct 12, 2009)
After a couple of weeks of helping us out after lil's departure from the team, Terran has decided to make his temporary appointment as Assistant Editor for Fiction and Poetry permanent.
I have to say, I'm really pleased about this. Terran has been a long-standing contributor to The Post, is a previous (albeit brief) Post Editor and, as a great fiction writer and instigator of Fiction Central, certainly knows his stuff.
Lil left a big hole in the team, but I think Terran is certainly the man to fill it. I hope you'll all make him feel very welcome.

Post Graphics
(Apr 30, 2009)
Hi all,
Just a quick apology for the continuing non-appearance of most of the graphics in this week's issue. It's entirely my fault for not being specific enough in my instructions to the Team and particularly the new Post Artists, so if you'd like to kick somebody about it I'm over here.
And apologies to Eds for creating extra work for them.

Sad News
(Apr 21, 2009)
For those of you who haven't heard, Researcher pheloxi died on Sunday morning:
F64198?thread=6507944
Pheloxi was a much-loved and long-standing member of the community, and will be missed by many people here.
I think it's only right that we put something together in his memory, so I'd like to put together a Memorial Wall for the next issue. If you'd like to leave a comment, memory or thought in this thread, we'll bring them together in something fitting for the next issue. Those of you who have written journals mourning his passing may wish to direct people here if you think they'd like to contribute.
I'd be grateful if you would add only comments you would like us to add to the article to this thread.

Vogon Poetry Voting
(Jan 10, 2009)
It seems I've made a rather monumental mistake in tallying the votes for the Vogon Poetry contest.
In the usual pre-publication rush, I seem to have counted the votes for Pinniped's poem with the votes for his Vogon poem, leaving him as the winner of the latter. With the votes allocated to the correct poems, though, Pin is left as the honourable runner-up in both, but the winner of neither.
Belated congratulations to Beatrice, then, and my sincerest, grovelling, humble apologies to you both for this rather idiotic mistake.

Missing Graphics
(Nov 6, 2008)
We seem to have a problem with the graphics for this week's issue, meaning there is going to be a delay to the publication of some columns - most notably the 42-Word Stories and this issue's cartoons. I'm hoping to find out what the problem is tomorrow, and we should have the missing columns in place by tomorrow night.
My sincere apologies for this, but at the moment it's beyond our control.

Vacancy for Post Assistant Editor!
(Aug 26, 2008)
For those of you who haven't been paying attention, The Post is currently looking for a new Assistant Editor. We seem to be a bit short of applicants in that we haven't had any yet, so I thought I'd detail the job a a bit further here in case anyone who might be interested in the job is reading!
We're looking an Assistant Editor to help prepare the copy and A-spaces for publication each issue. There is a bit of time pressure involved, as you'd be editing, creating A-spaces for and archiving 6-8 articles every fortnight between Sunday and Wednesday. you would need to be reliable and to be able to commit a certain amount of time to volunteering for us on a fortnightly basis. Once you're up to speed, I'd estimate that each article would take you about 10-15 minutes to edit. It's not a huge time commitment, but it is a regular one!
I guess I would say this, but these are quite exciting times to be involved with The Post. As well as being blessed with a great set of regular columnists at the moment, we have a number of ideas bubbling under for the autumn, and (apart from me) everyone involved is incredibly friendly, enthusiastic and easy to work with. I'm really keen to get the vacancy filled in time for our next issue, so if you're interested please give me a shout asap at the normal email address.

Change to Post Deadlines
(Jun 4, 2008)
For the next three issues, we're going to bringing the Post deadlines forward a day to Saturday. Please see tomorrow's Editorial for a full explanation of the reason for this change.
If anyone has important reasons why they are not able to submit their copy on Saturday, we are happy to make odd exceptions, but please do drop us a line to let us know in advance. Forgetfulness and/or being Mu Beta is not necessarily a valid reason on its own.

Post Graphics
(Apr 23, 2008)
We appear to have a small problem with the graphics this issue, in that... er... we don't seem to have any.
We're trying to find out why, and hopefully we should have whatever the problem is sorted out very soon. In the meantime, you'll just have to admire the Platypus Dancing archive while we wait for the new cartoons to go live. And if you're missing PBS's donkeys, the picture at A34333120 should keep you going until the new one appears.
In fact, I could've just said 'Oooh, look, cute baby donkey' and left you to coo while we tried to work out what was going on, eh?

New Recruits to the Post Team
(Mar 27, 2008)
On the day of our latest fine publication, we're delighted to announce the appointment of two new volunteers to the Post Team. We're chuffed to bits to have them both on board, to be honest, and we do feel feel it's a bit of a coup to have two such well-known and respected members of the community with us.
Anyway, I don't have give them a big build-up now we've got them both ensnared. Let's crack on with the announcement, eh?
Eco Worrier has joined us as Features Editor. As she's an ex-Italic, we've been silently stalking her for a while, and we're delighted that she's joined us. She gives us a bit of gravitas, you know? Her copy-editing skills are second to none around here, and we're all really looking forward to working with her. Moreover, I know from first-hand experience that she makes an excellent cup of tea - a very handy skill to have in the imaginary Post Office.
We actually made a new post just to make room for Matt. He's joining us as our new Contents Editor, and we'll let you know exactly what that means when we've worked it out ourselves. You'll know him from around the community already, of course, but he's joined us to point out suitable articles and point Researchers in our direction if he feels they have something to contribute. You won't see him tweaking apostrophies too often, but I think he's the man to really help to take the Post forward.
I hope you'll make them both very welcome in their new jobs.
I should also thank everyone else who applied for the Post position, but when these two came along we felt that they were the perfect people to complete the team. We will remember your applications the next time a position arises.

Post Deadlines
(Mar 4, 2008)
Hi everyone - my first journal as official Editor - and I just wanted to clarify the deadlines for the next couple of issues.
The next issue will be a special all-singing, all-dancing version with AV accompaniment, produced in association with the Aviators. While this has been mentioned a number of times in and elsewhere, I'm aware that many people will not be aware of this special issue, and even some regular Post writers are confused about the situation.
So just to clarify, the next issue is already closed for submissions, simply because it takes time to make AV clips of your work. Those of you who have submitted articles specifically for the Beeblecast with see your work in the next issue; anything else that comes in will be held over until the next issue. The next deadline for new submissions will therefore be Sunday 23 March.
My sincerest apologies for the confusion caused by this, but we would rather carry on with the Beeblecast plan despite the change in editors. Douglas Adams' birthday is on the 11th, and I felt it best to release this innovation as close to that day rather than delay it.
I hope you'll all be reassured that I've confused you all with a noble aim in mind, and let's hope the Beeblecast issue is worth the wait.
